I have known this is how the median voter functions for many, many years and it still makes me angry every time

please, I beg of you, consider what the change actually is before voting for it
the brain of the median voter needs to be studied for science

I think what Ezra Klein humiliating himself--and so many Elite Liberal Pundits leaping to his defense--demonstrates is how important it is to establish that if you liberally and nonviolently advocate for violent and illiberal policies, you yourself are blameless, guiltless, and without culpability

Years they've been doing this stuff. YEARS.

And still some think it was a 'mistake' or 'irresponsible'.

It was deliberate.

Every trans person knew before it happened what they would do and they did it.

YEARS.
I try not to do media criticism because we all make mistakes and there but for the grace of god go I. But it was really irresponsible for mainstream outlets to run with the "trans slogans engraved on the bullet" narrative, which seemed implausible from the jump.

I actually don't think that opposition in the second term has been weak like Smith is suggesting here (let alone why it might be, lol). The problem is that Trump has come back having learned more lessons from 1.0 and captured more institutions.
i think Noah completely misses the mark here: if you think a third-rate hangout for lefties is somehow why civil society has given up on civil society resistance, your theory of the world is wrong

The problem here is that a random Bluesky poster with 5 fake diseases can become the face of the Democratic Party while the actual president can say he's mad that Jeffrey Epstein stole his sex slave and he wants Barack Obama executed and people shrug.
A message I just got from a buddy of mine, who’s a long time Democratic Party campaign consultant: “This Sydney Sweeney thing is the kind of thing that turns men away from our party. It’s why men think our party is weak & insane.”

My response to him? “Fuck yea it is. You are exactly right.”

I hope he never holds public office again.

Right. There's an actual existing ratified trade deal with S. Korea that is current law!
Reminder that the US has a signed and ratified trade deal with Korea that an international treaty & part of US law, & <everything> here is wildly illegal & we should stop sanewashing & normalizing of it & simply enforce the damn law even for this One Special Boy.
This part seems like the same delusion he had with the Japan deal.

This is correct. Any candidate cynically “triangulating” on trans kids is a non-starter, and now is the time to say so. There’s still so much time to advance candidates that DON’T suck.
I will never, ever vote for Gavin Newsom. Ever, under any circumstances. I don't care if he becomes the Dem nominee, he's still not getting my vote.
On a recent podcast Gavin Newsom tells Shawn Ryan how the Trans sports issue opened the door for him to change his mind on GAC for Trans Youth.

As someone who adored him since 2004 and voted for him 5 times, I can't wait for him to leave office.

There is no way I will be voting for him a 6th time.

At the heart of Christian nationalism is the "right" of the authoritarian to constantly reaffirm his divine mandate.
Mike Johnson: "God miraculously saved the president's life -- I think it's undeniable -- and he did it for an obvious purpose. His presidency and his life are the fruits of divine providence. He points that out all the time and he's right to do so."

The fact that this practice has gone on as long as it has is unconscionable, and scrapping plans to eliminate is just another way this administration is bad for workers.
Something under the radar happened: Trump rescinded the Department of Labor's planned rule to phase out paying people with disabilities below a minimum wage. @juliametraux.bsky.social reports. This comes despite Republican governors ending the practice. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
Trump just made It OK to continue paying disabled workers peanuts
In many states, the push to end the subminimum wage continues.

God only knows. But what this is clearly intended to do is to cause people to give up their case and stop fighting — because conditions in detention are so awful and degrading that many people can’t bear them and choose to accept deportation rather than apply for relief they’re eligible for.
Where would all these people be held? Even with the OBBB cash infusion for ICE, I can't imagine they'll enough space anytime soon for detention/internment at this scale

Re: stripping citizenship, look. There is no legal mechanism for him to do it. The very fact that he is talking about it tells you, yet again, what he is. He’s an aspiring totalitarian who wants absolute power over people’s lives and to use it to reward friends and punish enemies. That’s really it.

The president pushing to change our very conception of citizenship—which nearly all Americans were taught and grew up with as a given—is an incredibly big deal. As @swin24.bsky.social writes, it's about way more than threatening one celebrity's citizenship over speech, including the attacks on 14A.
Trump Thinks He Can Take Away Citizenship From Anyone He Doesn't Like
Trump says he wants to take away Rosie O’Donnell’s American citizenship after threatening Zohran Mamdani.

Police who keep their identities secret are, quite literally, secret police. I don’t know why this is even controversial. You don’t get to yank people off the streets while hiding your face and identity and still retain the respectability of an accountable, democratic police force.
“Secret police” are your words, not mine. Seems like you’ve been giving them a lot of thought.

Unlike NYPD, your agents don’t identify themselves & wear masks that cover their faces. Now they ignore judges’ rulings, too.

What law enforcement agents are supposed to uphold … is the rule of law.

A thing that infuriates Times readers is the idea that the editors more closely identify with Rufo than with their readers. Indeed, the editors see their reliance on the Rufos of the world, and the subsequent disgust of their readers, as a sign of their integrity rather than of failure.
here are the results:

since january 1, 2021, rufo has appeared in the WSJ 32 times.

in the same period, he appeared in NYT 167 times.
