Used to tweet. Now I’m here.
I think one chapter of my life is ending. I’m trying to be thankful for the good things in that chapter. And there were some. But right now it is very hard not to feel like a failure. But I did make some exceptional roasted butternut squash today so I guess I have that.

FYI: When good legislation is blocked "because" 1-2 House/Senate Dems oppose it, remember it's actually because EVERY REPUBLICAN *plus* 1-2 Dems oppose it.

REPUBLICANS HAVE AGENCY. They can do the right thing at any time they want to. Just because they never do doesn't mean we should ignore it.

In the early 2000s, I tried to read Harry Potter & y’all it was so mid. I was totally snobby about it. I probably came across as a jerk. Maybe in hindsight I was on to something regarding HP more people would acknowledge now, but these days I try to zip my lips and let people like what they like.

And if there's one thing 2021-2025 taught us, it's that voters will NOT accept "We'll he's trying and being blocked by Republicans, so the solution is to elect more Democrats so he can pass this stuff" as an answer come midterms.

Voters simply are not erudite enough to parse this message.

Biden focused on the first approach, that was to fix the things the Trump admin broke in the first term, aka the economy.

But what he didn't expect was people to blame HIM for what Republican judges (or Republicans in Congress) did.

Republicans were REWARDED with power for wilfull sabotage.

This They Might Be Giants TONIGHT SHOW performance of "Birdhouse In Your Soul" from 1990 remains firmly lodged in my noggin thanks to the Tonight Show Band's full commitment and Doc Severinsen's incredible trumpeting... It took an already great song and made it transcendent.

Last summer it seemed like everyone (parents, teachers, school boards, governors) where clutching their copies of Anxious Generation and demanding phone lockers and social media age limits and this year it’s all like how is AI being incorporated into the curriculum???!!!!

30+ years of visiting this park. Just horrifying.
The police in Arkansas were searching for a suspect on Monday after a married couple were killed while on a hike in a remote part of Devil’s Den State Park over the weekend.
Manhunt Underway in Arkansas After Couple Is Killed in State Park
The couple were hiking with their two daughters on Saturday when they were attacked, according to the police, who asked for help in searching for a suspect.

And again, I’m not even in the “all LLMs and AI tools are inherently useless and evil” camp - but I do think we’re in the middle of an absolutely horrifically irresponsible and reckless mass roll-out of these tools that I believe will lead us to very dark places.

I have no idea if this was the initial plan (I actually don’t think so based on Trumps behavior the last few weeks) but no doubt this is what they are going to try to orchestrate now.

The Biden years are a textbook example of how deliverism will not sell itself. There was a wild dissonance between the admin having real wins and the press being openly hostile and dismissive about them. Which was also a example of the conservative infotainment racket driving our political press.

I guess the media needs it to be spelled out but the core principle of RFKj wellness fascism is that if you get sick it’s your fault, you could have avoided it by using the right “supplements” and working out, so you might as well die because you’re of no use
If you find this confusing you should never comment on American politics ever again.

Feel like the better version of this is like “important to remember this whole Twitter billionaire fight started over whether they were going to take health care from 15 million or 30 million Americans.”
When 15 million Americans lose their health care and plunge into personal crisis, none of them are going to give a shit about a made-for-clicks twitter fight between two billionaires arguing about who gets the bigger share of the corruption spoils.

between Elon's ransacking of the government and Palantir's government contracts I feel like there's a pretty good chance they *both* have the nuclear codes and they *both* have all our personal data
I'm just glad one of these men has the nuclear codes and the other has all our personal data.

Also, this was the same election where people voted "against inflation" by...electing the candidate with the most inflationary platform in quite some time.

The electorate is often quite dumb and dishonest with itself about its motivations.

They aren’t using Russian propagandists effectively. (Just ask Bernie Sanders).
People spend a lot of time wondering why the left is worse at using independent media to control the national narrative.

A useful exercise is to ask why the left is also worse at selling snake oil and pyramid schemes, because I think the reasons are basically exactly the same.

Hate won the election! We are only UNITED in our current suffering! It’s sad that social issues that have nothing to do with if you have food, clothes, nor a home, divided us. The hate for groups of people allowed him to make us less safe domestically, economically, and frankly mentally.

Juggling personal calamity with the whatever it is that’s going on in the USA currently — I wish I could just zone out. But I have a kid so I keep trying to put one foot in front of the other and make it work. I worry one day that won’t be enough.

I wrote last week: It’s hard to imagine two groups being more vindicated by events than the resistance liberals (a movement largely powered by women) and the never-Trump Republicans. They were right about Trump and how serious a danger he was from the jump.
Breaking news: U.S. sides with Russia to vote against a U.N. resolution condemning Moscow for the Ukraine war.

Washington’s dramatic shift on the conflict marks a major break with its European allies and coincides with the Trump administration’s bid to repair relations with the Kremlin.
