Here for the science and the snark, in varying degrees of each.
The part that no one wants to admit is that the cause of the inflation after COVID was - us.

People went absolutely CRAZY trying to make up for a year of lost purchases and outings in a single month.

As a result, businesses raised prices because they still had supply issues.

And we kept buying.
This was the exact opposite under Biden, where the US economy was dramatically outperforming the rest of the world
The Dow was at 43,488 when Trump took office. It just hit 50,000.

So if you had invested $43,488 in the US, you would now have $50,000. But if you had invested the same amount in the rest of the world, you would now be worth $60,000.

The other key problem with DHS is that it was absolutely necessary - to solve the problem that we saw from 9/11, where agencies simply had no ability to coordinate outside of themselves because of systems that wouldn't interact.

But it went from that to an umbrella with almost unlimited scope.
This thread seems to confirm my very strong prior that a big part of what's wrong with DHS is that it blurs foreign and domestic authority, and by doing so inherently promotes bringing military and intelligence behavior into the civilian world
I worked in a Democratic presidential administration and, even then, DHS was very often the most problematic, obstinate part of negotiating a civil/human rights provision into executive branch policy.

I have been thinking about this a lot in recent weeks and want to offer a short 🧵with reflections:

The really funny part is that Tillis approach of making Trump look subservient to Miller and Noem is probably the most effective way to get him to remove them.

Trump's a narcissist and a control freak.

And the easiest way to force a narcissist to spiral is to not give them any credit.
Tillis: "I think the president has some advisers around him -- you've heard me talk about Stephen Miller, you know my opinion about Kristi Noem -- these are people that don't look around corners and are not taking care of this president's legacy. And I intend to."

Or maybe the character flaws of someone who threatens the life of a Black jogger and then uses his position on the parole board to make the kid apologize to HIM should matter more than policy promises they make to get elected.

Especially in a system where there are no do overs.
I think before the stroke he meant it tbh
As a Senate candidate, Fetterman guaranteed voters he’d be a reliable Dem, not another Manchin or Sinema.

Constantly. It was his core promise to primary voters.

Liar.

If this looks familiar, it's because you've seen (or experienced) it before.

You were in a relationship. You're friends kept telling you things weren't right, but you were "in love".

Then finally you end it, and suddenly you look at every incidence with new eyes.

And the hatred burns eternal.

Reminder folks: the whole "HR is not there to protect you" also means that HR will not protect others who put the company at risk.

If you become a liability to the company's (as evidenced through so many tearful "im not racist like that" youtube videos after getting caught), they will fire you.
I literally work at a manual labor job and believe me they don’t tolerate that shit.

This is the honest truth.

Until voters demand those 25 Republicans care more about them than they do Trump, then there is nothing Democrats can do to stop Trump that they haven't already done, which does nothing to stop executive orders and declarations.
Again, the answer is “10-25 people in Washington, <all> of whom are Republicans, or it’s not going to happen.”

And yet, these 10-25 people get free passes every day & still can leave their houses & go to work with scarcely a question about when they’re going to start fulfilling their oaths 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️
Again, I know everyone wants to yell at The Democrats & Chuck Schumer & Hakeem Jefferies, but there are 10-25 people in Washington who could literally end all of this tomorrow, & none of them are Democrats, & they continue to get 24/7 free passes for being absolute oath-violating cowards. Focus.

North Carolina lawmakers have voted to remove all college campus voting sites. Specifically at the largest HBCU in the US NC A&T. They now have to walk 30 minutes to their nearest polling place. Students are protesting this - pls share and support.

Even without an on-campus voting site, NCAT students still marched to the polls. 💙💛 Students at North Carolina A&T showed that barriers won’t stop their voices. When access isn’t easy, they organize. ...

Obama opposes the Filibuster as it is, as do most of us.

But that's not a call to abolish it, but reform it.

There's a lot of space between no filibuster and the current one.

We need some mechanism to stop the GOP from stripping rights or benefits everytime they get a majority in Congress.
OBAMA: “The Filibuster blocks us from making government effective, which makes people think it’s corrupt and not caring about them — giving folks like Trump an opening.”

Obama makes the case for ABOLISHING THE FILIBUSTER

Republicans had an opportunity to cement a generational advantage with Hispanics, and they "187ed" themselves nationwide.

(This isn't a reference to the penal code, either.)

Now here's hoping Democrats don't fall for the "open borders" trap and instead LISTEN to the Hispanic voters.

"Indigenous Iranian Missile" is hilarious for a lot of reasons, the least being that it's actually a ripoff of the SA-7 from the now defunct USSR, meaning it's a [checks notes] colonizing missile?

Soviet Apartheid 7?
This is why I will never trust tankies nor take them seriously.

Except it is. Because the left refuses to clean their house.

They refuse to drive out the antisemitics, the racists, and the "tankies" from their ranks because to do so would weaken the "movement". They continue to help those same groups with donations.

They're not getting up from the nazi table.

Some of us hopped online in the 90s and 2000s 'cause it was FUN to chat with people all over the world... for free!

Baby, we grew up when it cost a zillion dollars to call long distance! We had pen pals at school!
