I don't want to assume the motives of a grieving parent, but the grandfather's offer to come to Minneapolis and take the kid reads as very troubling in the light of the actual situation. God forbid we somehow make this family's pain worse.

I want us to stay focused on the grief of this terrible moment, but when Black people tell you not to touch something, that is not a challenge. Some things are ours for a reason. We can remember Renee Good as the person she was and the circumstances of her murder without co-opting Black suffering.
“Say her name” is not about allyship. It’s a term crafted for people who are the focus of violence that deliberately erases us. It’s not for her, and it wouldn’t be for her, even if she were Heather Heyer, who didn’t get it when she died for civil rights. Can you understand that?

i am absolutely empathetic to a man whose lost his daughter. however, there is at least one other person who is an obvious participant in this child's life. and as a lesbian it is difficult not to consider the underscoring that is suggested here
