Increasingly I think the point of a wealth tax is not to raise money but to create space for raising income tax. The lethal thing in politics is when the compliant middle class feels like they have been taken for mugs; if you want to get money out of them, someone else needs to pay more too.

the problem with being deep into politics online is that you do, on average, know more than the average offline person but you might also develop at least one mildly insane belief not shared anywhere outside your cohort that you thus can’t be dissuaded of

I remember having this conversation with a friend that, for all the legitimate critiques of the media reporting, the alternative media was doing no journalism themselves and their model simply consisted of re-spinning the story as reported by the legacy journalists.

"Katwala's paradox of racism"

In a demonstrably less prejudiced society (attitudes shifted, esp across generations), I am in receipt of much more racism

Minorities in 2020s have more equal opps than ever before - esp at very top - yet an increasingly unequal experience of more equal opportunities

Implement The Purge but for people who dump in the binsheds of housing association property, where the council refuses to take responsibility because it's technically private but also the HA refuses to find+fine actual tippers + just whacks up tenants' service charges instead, and now we're talking
This is actually incredible. Are we sure Chris Morris isn’t feeding him these lines?

Really feel for John Cena here, currently living through that episode of Black Mirror where Salma Hayek accidentally licenses her butthole to Netflix

Morning routine. Get up, make coffee, hide a slice of toast in a random place. By the time I get back to bed with coffee, the dog is there, waiting. I shout TOAST TOAST TOAST, he sprints off, spends 20 mins happily searching the flat for it. A great start to the day.

Current UK freedom of information logic is that Google search results are not FOIable but ChatGPT query history is.

That seems absolutely untenable. Full kudos to @stokel.bsky.social for getting the scoop but the decision making here is bonkers.

There needs to be broader recognition that the top-down, gatekeeped information system most of us grew up with is shifting towards peer-to-peer information systems, where we're no longer just consumers of information but creators and vectors of information. This especially affects Gen Alpha.
There is also a general culture within the party (in part due to your point) that discounts or strongly penalizes attention/digital performance/messaging, so there is a strong disincentive and risk for members to perform well in this capacity if they want to ascend.
