I don’t really give a shit how much of a conservative this makes me sound like, but the United States has suffered an existential collapse in the civic virtue of our citizens necessary to sustain a liberal democracy.

this is insane. you can go and talk to the voters who had their votes thrown out. they're all real people who were fully eligible to vote. there's no mystery here.
Bombshell in North Carolina: the state's GOP-dominated Court of Appeals just sided with the GOP candidate in last year's supreme court race.

Their decision would toss roughly 60,000 ballots (!) that have been counted, & likely hand the election to GOP instead of incumbent Dem Justice who won it.

I'm really mad that being terminally online has gone from being like, incidental to understanding the world ~7 years ago to useful in 2020/21 to instrumental now
People say twitter/online isn't real life, but it certainly gave a clearer view of what to expect from the incoming trump admin than the media did. You could pretty obviously see who he was surrounding himself with.
The business community wanted Trump because no one told them that he's a senile old man surrounded by nazis. The media instead sold a fake version of Trump that was a genius businessman. The reality has been somewhat startling to them!

Tout this widely. The biggest danger right now is, as @dandrezner.bsky.social said yesterday, pluralistic ignorance, when “people who hold a majority opinion are unaware that it is a majority opinion”. We need to broadcast all the signs that the town halls etc are not a fluke.
uhhhh it looks like Dems just flipped a R+17 Pennsylvania State Senate seat in Amish country…

Lancaster County you have shocked the nation
Well wow. With just 3 precincts left, Dem James Malone is up by 800 votes in PA's #SD36. This is looking like an astonishing Dem flip in a Trump+15 seat, per our calculations. electionresults.lancastercountypa.gov/results/publ...

I don't think abundance stuff expands the coalition on the front end, but the key thing is actually *doing* abundance would be incredibly beneficial, to demonstrate competent blue state governance, to prevent losses in the House/EC, and to reduce zero sum conflict which pushes people right

one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

It’s crucial in this utterly lawless and corrupt administration that we recognize the people who acted with integrity and remember, forever, those who did not.
One of the AUSAs put on administrative leave by this letter is Hagan Scotten, my former Hogan Lovells colleague. I am not surprised that he would risk his job for his convictions; he has some of the strongest personal integrity of anyone I've worked with.
Read the letter from Emil Bove, acting deputy attorney general, accepting the resignation of Danielle R. Sassoon, Manhattan’s acting U.S. attorney, over her refusal to drop the case against Mayor Eric Adams.

Americans will go on vacation to a place that isn’t a car sewer, walk and take public transit for 8-12 hrs. a day, notice a change in their health, and attribute it to “they must not have the Illuminati chemicals here”
