I'm Will Couper, that writer you've never heard of. I toil away, sending out horror, fantasy, and (rare) sci-fi. Mostly responsive to stimuli. I'll block bigots on sight.
Absolutely this. I also don't think that the media and politicians help these situations as they almost visibly start to fidget when things they don't like have their attention for more than five minutes. All like fucking toddlers.
This is of course fundamentally the same reason we surrendered to Covid so it should come as no great surprise.

The subcategorization/tropefication of popular fiction has been very bad in general, both for authors and readers.
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

Let me give some insight on this, as a producer in the dub industry who worked with major streamers, who's witnessed first-hand where this push for AI is coming from.

The post I keep seeing popping up about how each PM being more hated than the last shows the electorate is impossible to please and we’re inclined to hate governments no matter what feels a bit disingenuous. Maybe we just hate the specific type of craven, bigot-courting government we keep getting.
