Where can I get a good copy/version of Wuthering Heights for a gift? May or may not be illustrated.

Thoughts?

Let's be real about life-changing tech.

GLP-1 agonists (your Ozempic, Manjaro, etc) are life-changing tech.

People see life-changing results and seek it out and pay money for it. It has caveats, but that's not my point.

My point is if genAI was this life-changing tech...see where I'm going?

Yeah, how about 'No, Nadella. If it bothers you, I like it.'

And you're going to sit there with a shit-eating grin on your face and call AI 'cognitive amplifier'?

Get the fuck out, Nadella.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says people should move beyond calling AI 'slop'

"We need to get beyond the arguments of slop vs sophistication and develop a new equilibrium ... that accounts for humans being equipped with these new cognitive amplifier tools as we relate to each other"

What folks who weren't there don't know is that all of us who were kids in the 70s and 80s had superpowers.

That's how we survived the quicksand and killer bees and Satanic Panic and Jim Jones and nuclear armaggedon.

Then puberty happened and we discovered sex, and God kicked us out of Eden...

Oh, people are introducing themselves with what almost killed them.

It assumes there's only been one thing. Cute.

Hi, I'm three car crashes, one explosion, one bout of encephalitis, and one coma/vegetative state.

And, no, I'm not giving details, but, yes, I have lived in interesting times.

Folks, this year will see from me:

-1 new novel.
-1 new edition of an old novel in a shiny new format + new art
-1 novella
-1 short story in an anthology

There's another new novel that's finished, but we haven't reached an agreement on the contract yet.

Plus the usual kids and karate posts.

The Dispossessed by LeGuin.
Ok, everyone, what book is sacred enough to you to get sworn in on?
Strange takes on Mayor Zamdani swearing his oath on the Qu’ran. It has nothing to do with church & state. The point of the oath is for the person swearing in to do so upon some text that is sacred TO THEM. Some Presidents swore in w/o any book. John Quincy Adams was sworn on a law book. His choice.

First movie of the year: HAMNET (2025).

Absolutely fantastic.

No notes.

Great adaptation, great movie in its own right.

Bloody hell, that was emotionally engaging.

As a leftie, I randomly remember that it used to be believed that there was a nine year mortality gap between righties and lefties.

They said we died younger, and it fed into the whole 'sinistral' stigma.

Turns out it was a statistical error. Left-handedness was under reported back then.
