Council never had the bottle to turn places like cornmarket street or Emmett place into city squares so they put the city square into the park instead.

It's good to see Bishop Lucey Park open again and there are some nice elements but overall it's rather charmless, cluttered and over-engineered. Strap yourself in for a rollercoaster ride of a thread (1/n)🧵 #Cork

I continue to oppose the principle of selling public green space for private development, the extension into Bishop Lucey Park is not even the worst thing about the whole mess. It should never have been built but the park now has so many other issues Cork will be dealing with for a generation. #Cork
I have views on the refurb of Bishop Lucey Park but will outline them another day. In the meantime, here's the extension of the masonic lodge into the park on public land sold for €1. #Cork

When asked how people like to travel, workshop participants cut car use by half: from 37% to 19% while bus use tripled. A great insight from the recent co-creation workshop on how conversations can shape smarter, greener mobility 🇮🇪 @cyclingincork.bsky.social @irishcyclingcmpn.bsky.social

We were told the interchange would cost €100 million and solve the congestion and tailbacks.

It cost €225 million, and it didn't.

The people who were 100% wrong about this – and blew 9 figures of public money on it – have a new suggestion.

More lanes.

Just one more lane right?

Good thing the new Dunkettle works solved traffic. What If they just built a bus lane to and from the City instead?

Long been said here that there has to be a better way to do bin collection than how it's currently done in Cork city.

Good to see it discussed on the Cork subreddit

Also a perfect example as why having the Green party as a partner in government makes for a very different government that when right-wing independents do the honours. See also Martin's walk back on climate goals as now being "politically unachievable" having watched the Greens being obliterated.

Ciaran Ferrie's piece in @irishexaminer.bsky.social nails the Govts capitulation on the Speed Limit Review. Identifying the urban roads that should be 50km (arterial) and 30km (everywhere else) is a relatively simple technical exercise with a small bit of guidance. Absolute cowardice.
