What happened to Blackpool should be a crime. A village within walking distance of Cork City almost completely derelict, the remaining bits suffering from lack of maintenance.
Should be a vibrant City neighbourhood comfortably housing a few thousand more. We should be outraged.

What if this was a small park?

MacCurtain St is now worse for pedestrians than it was before the public realm works.

They say:

"Trees were planted on Pana over the weekend"

We say:

"Ten year wait for one vandalised tree to be replaced on our city's main street"

Why do Vape shops go out of their way to make their shop fronts look as unappealing as possible.
February 28, 2025 at 3:24 PM
Are we finally seeing real movement on this site? Apartments were mentioned here as a possibility by the owners before. Also, why do some businesses get penalised for signage while phone and vape shops get away with it?

Our standard of shop front really needs to rise. Not fair on those shops who put effort into their premises.

This really should be removed as part of the Bishop Lucy Park works. Anyone know if it will be?
February 17, 2025 at 9:17 PM
Thanks to Cllr Peter Horgan for following up. Not sure we’ll ever see a tree here again but let’s wait and see.

Lads this is a joke. Loads have been begging for more greenery in the City and all we get is excuses. Now we know we won’t get the bigger stuff since they can’t just replace trees in tree bases that are already there. Please raise a stink! Pics from @seanydunne.bsky.social

If this is the case then we can’t expect much for future greening if we can’t put new trees in ready made holes. Anyone know if this is true? @oliver.ie @theformerdanboyle.bsky.social

Good read from @dvenables.bsky.social & @maricacassarino.bsky.social on how we can pollute less, keep warm and benefit from clean air ahead of clean air night given burning solid fuel is one of Ireland's worst sources of air pollution.

Very little illegal parking in town today .

The council's "parking enforcement is just for Christmas" approach seems to be working

Just the Cork County Board bemoaning the loss of parking.

An organisation that does nothing to promote the use of public transport or cycling to get to their venues in the City

Excessive trees according to Cllr Des Cahill but never excessive cars. Too many of our Cllrs are utter failures when it comes to biodiversity loss and climate change. Let them know.

Trees in Beaumont Park felled at the request of residents. #pocketforests

It should be easy for cork city council to hold retailers to a certain standard. It’s not fair on the many retailers who work hard and show pride in their shopfronts

We need a lot more people living above shops in our Towns and Cities. Castle St, Cork.

The idea is welcome but the execution isn’t good. Big plastic tubs is not a green solution and the placement is awkward and obstructive. Imagine you’re blind and you’re trying to navigate this. Instead we need to look at more permanent planting in the ground, SUDs and trees.

MacCurtain Street and Bridge Street looking good.

Nice new seating too, should help with the illegal parking

Ballincollig - Massive objections to Greenway

BusConnects:

Cycle lanes reduced from 2m wide to 1.5 wide

footpaths from 2m to 1.8m

Outbound bus lane removed, bus bays removed

Right turn lane restored

The watering down of the plans tie us into car dependency for the foreseeable future
