Is there a way to permanently remove the trending topics from the sidebar? I'm sick of having to click 'hide' every time I log on

On a recent stream, @notquitereal.bsky.social shouted out Portia Spiders. They are wicked for their intelligence and hunting abilities, but the thing Jack failed to get across that I've said for years, is that there isn't a creature on this earth that more deserves to wear a little wizard hat.

anti-intellectualism denies creative intent and authorial agency. 'what if the curtains are just blue' meme at its core is basically treating fiction as naturally occurring phenomena where everything meaningful is a happy coincidence at best, and thinking otherwise is pretentious and projection

This is an enormous thread, but a fascinating one I'm glad I read to the end. As an atheist, I try to live by "Do unto others" as a good moral framework, but so many US Christians are performative in their faith yet derisively eschew good works, which confused me. I have an understanding now.
Pope Leo's first sermon and, uh, his using the phrase "be ever more fully a city set upon a hill" and cf'ing it to Rev 21:10 instead of any of the others before saying "many baptized Christians" are "living in a state of practical atheism" is. Well. Shots fired!

Read Pope Leo XIV's first homily as pope
During his homily, delivered in Italian, Leo XIV said that Christians must serve a world that is often hostile to their beliefs.

Ever been reading a spooky book and not realized how spooky until you put it down for a bit and all the shadows around you seem to have something hiding in them?

Anyway the Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling is very good

Buy from independent bookshops!
Man, this is a pretty fucking gross move from Amazon, huh? Good on @bookshop.org for not mincing words, though:
