Will Arnett was on Conan and told a story about how Conan dealt with the death of his parents by accusing Jason Bateman of killing them. It’s so funny.

Obviously this is impossible because Alan Moore looks like he's genetically a wizard, it's simply impossible to imagine what he would look like as a schoolboy oh there he is.

“Oh conference”.
Chair in the Your Party debate on dual membership: "No booing, conference. If you are unkind, there will be consequences." (After lots of booing re dual membership)

"We do not want any fights or arguments. Let's be calm...I'm going to have to turn the mic off. Oh conference, dear dear dear."

This is one of my favourite bits on here: the Uk actually taxes its top decile a lot and under taxes the middle, giving us Europes most progressive taxation system. European taxes for the top decile and then they get frozen out of the benefits system because the middle do not pay their share.

Brilliant!
At 11:41 to save looking for it.
This New Yorker documentary about the 1988 UK government ban on broadcasting the voices of Sinn Féin and I.R.A. leaders is pretty good but they show *that clip from The Day Today with no explanation and no indicator that it is satire.

This is astonishing. I thought there would be something in there that would restore my faith but no, it's every but as insane as this quote makes it sound
If you want to understand the emotional end intellectual malaise of British politics, this piece by @mjrobbins.com is a pretty good place to start. It effectively describes a country that has gone mad. open.substack.com/pub/martinro...

One of the joys of a new parliament is learning about the interesting backgrounds of all the new MPs. For instance Katie Lam, the 34-year-old MP for the Weald of Kent, might seem like another cookie…

A reminder of how Mrs Thatcher's Conservative party in 1983, an era featuring much more widespread racial prejudice in the public, approached the issue of race and national identity:

Everyone's finding their favourite bit of this schedule, but I bet he can't wait for Ramsgate, Douglas, Middlesbrough, Buxton and Cumbernauld in five consecutive days.
This is the maddest tour I've ever seen in my life. It seems like he's doing more gigs than there are days in the year.

This is good and, sad to admit, an angle I hadn't considered
Here's what I said in Welcome to Britain several years ago. I also suggested better regularisation and fairer, more reasonable immigration rules for families and others to minimise accidentally making migrants unlawful after their lawful entry.

One of the most interesting and balanced things I've read on this subject. I continually wonder what it is that keeps some people centred while others disappear down conspiracy rabbit holes. This feels broadly convincing
New post:

"The Radicalisation Spiral"

Why are so many people becoming radicalised? Is there any way to stop it?

With an antivaxxer running the US health dept + extreme discourse dominating politics it's an increasingly pressing question.

Not least because 'put on another jumper first' is actionable. (He said, being keenly aware that his actually pretty cool flat is presumably going to be Very Cold Indeed in the winter)
Bizarre discussion on the radio likening air condition to passive smoking because it accounts for 3% of CO2 emissions.

But: we don’t moralise turning heating on in winter, and heating accounts for 15% of emissions. If aircon is intrinsically immoral, so are radiators.
