Douglas Adams how did you know
"Sure, I can help you with that"
"I just want a cup of tea"
"I see..."

Arthur painstakingly crafted a prompt explaining the origins of tea, the fields of India and Pakistan, the history of international trade, war and colonialism, the art of brewing.:.

YOU WANT TO KNOW ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA

You get to interact with humans you'd likely not have contact with IRL/meatspace because our worlds in meatspaces are limited by time/money/distance/access.

DO YOU PEOPLE KNOW HOW FUCKING COOL IT IS HOW MANY SCIENTISTS ARE ON HERE

We'll be in Sweden in an hour! Only 7 hours of train and 90 minutes of car after that 😅 What an intrepid little traveler.

In 3 days, I'm leaving to take a 4 day train journey to Sweden with the dog, where we join the family and a bestie and her child on a tiny Swedish archipelago, with a terrace that looks at the Baltic sea. Can't wait :) 3 weeks of blissful nothing!

i think a lot about how zotero is actually one of the technologies academia actually should be pushing on students and faculty versus the lake-guzzling, town poisoning, and labor exploiting chatbots
Zotero has changed my life for the better. What a marvelous piece of software.

Thread; reminds me of this year's Budapest Pride being called "thousands" even in nominally left-wing English-language media, with multiple hundred thousand people present - as far as I could determine, possibly the biggest protest in Hungarian history ever. But, trans flags so it doesn't count?
The BBC News website has pages & pages of coverage related to farmers protesting inheritance tax, including events where only a few hundred turn out.

In London yesterday 100,000 people marched for trans rights, and nothing.

Imagine if it was 100,000 anti immigrant activists, they'd cover that.

I just need to face the fact that the part of coding I am best at is accessing files and franken-file-ing them into a useful format. It's not sexy, it's not flashy, but so often in neuroscience you can't even start without it.

Goodnight, friends.

In memory of Andrea Gibson, here’s a portion of their poem “Instead of Depression” -

"Imagine the darkness is a cave
in which you will be nurtured
by doing absolutely nothing.
Hibernating animals don’t even dream.
It’s okay if you can’t imagine
Spring."

I love you.

Burnout is clinically understood as a combo of 6 factors—work overload, lack of control, insufficient rewards, breakdown in community, absence of fairness, & value conflicts—and only a fraction of it is under your control. Burnout is a systemic problem, so be kind to yourself and hard on the system.
Hey gang I've had to learn recently that the whole "burning out" thing is real so if you find yourself being panicked every waking second that you're not working on something, despite those seconds being very rare, you should maybe listen to the signals and take an intentional break before you crash

Nazi Germany did literally ban Nature:

"Articles are often published in the London weekly scientific journal Nature containing outrageous and vile attacks on German science and the national socialist state.

The journal must therefore be excluded from general use in the scientific libraries."

I am no fan of Springer, but to preempt objections that this is hyperbolic language, the Nazis literally banned the same journals and justified the decision using very similar rhetoric.
