"I know because it is my job to know."

Things I've had to explain since February:

•which side was who in the Civil War
•the difference between 'terrace' and 'tariff'
•Adriana Smith and abortion laws
•how government is supposed to work
•why you can't put bleach in an old windex bottle
•chem-trails
So, i had major surgery yesterday. Was home for a few hours, trying to sleep when the cat decided a mouse would be the answer.
She has a toy mouse she flings about. But this was a real mouse and it landed in my chair at one point. "Welcome home," indeed.

Remember, kids: being sick or disabled is a choice you make, not something largely due to societal factors, poverty, and random chance.

Make better choices!

(This is sarcasm.)
Markwayne Mullin: "Reward people for being healthy. Think about this. Healthcare is the only industry that you're not rewarded for taking care of your responsibility. If you think about homeowners insurance, if you're within 500 feet of a fire hydrant, your insurance goes down."

NEW:

In 2024, Tierra Walker was sick and getting sicker. She was also pregnant.

She knew abortion was illegal in Texas, but thought there was an exception for women like her, whose health was at risk. Doctors told her there was no emergency.

Then she died.

Walker is one of several women ProPublica found with underlying health conditions who died when they couldn’t access abortions.

This is SUCH an important thread for white people (men especially) to read and learn to let go of your defensiveness around white privilege because you are not just harming others you are harming yourself with it!!!
One of the most liberating truths I’ve learned, and the one that white folx, particularly white men, still struggle to face, is this:

The myth of white supremacy explains your behavior.
It does not, and has never, determined my value.

do you believe in ghosts or are you like me, a person who finds themself saying all the time “I absolutely don’t believe in ghosts, but this place has ghosts.”

I brought Rancilda home on July 12th, as a sub-adult orchid mantis with a life-threatening injury. By all rights and all common wisdom, she should have died. It is NOT POSSIBLE to nurse an orchid mantis through an injury of this type.
Every morning when I get out of bed, I check the mantis enclosures to see if anyone molted, moved into feeding position, or died during the night (some of my ghosts are reaching the natural end of their lives). It's a standard circuit.

Authoritarianism arrives with emails like this. The masked brute squad may or may not accost you later, be sure to carry your papers.
Email just went out on my campus that the Immigration Goons ("federal immigration agents") will be in town (Raleigh).

Inter alia, it says,"International students, faculty and staff should carry evidence of their immigration status with them at all times."

The fuck kind of country are we living in?

Let's go, mutual aid people
I haven't been online because I've been writing

but we got another one to raise funds for. A lady needs to see a man about a horse: you know what to do. About $700, housing covered already. Timely.
