Us? We get Ryan Walters.

I've been teaching in Oklahoma City for 30+ years. I THOUGHT I had seen it all.

The Oklahoma Supreme Court has permanently nullified social studies standards that promote Christianity and election denialism

Former state Superintendent Ryan Walters would've required students to learn about Christianity, myths about 2020 election fraud, COVID-19 pseudoscience
After court ruling, OSBE ready to 'regain public trust' on social studies standards

BREAKING: The Oklahoma Supreme Court just OVERTURNED Ryan Walters' Jesus-centric, conspiracy-heavy social studies standards.

(They put a temporarily block on them earlier. Now it's permanent.)

Thank goodness. Students deserve history, not propaganda.

Very early in my writing career, I ended a piece about a particular band with "and they're here to stay." Thank goodness the art director questioned it. "You don't know that," he said. "They could be over next month."

LIVE YOUR LIFE in such a way that Mango Mussolini shitposts about you on the day of your death.
Honestly, this Trump post is a posthumous badge of honor for Rob Reiner.

Because if this is how Trump speaks about someone after their death, then they clearly did something right in their life.
Trump just posted this on Rob Reiner

Rob Reiner started his career as the moral center of a hateful world. His life and work carried that spirit for generations. Losing him now, in such a violent way—as authoritarianism tightens its grip, oligarchs consolidate their greed, and Hollywood gets stripped for parts—feels profoundly unjust.

Just in case any journalist or editor reading this is tempted to minimize Trump's Reiner post because it's a "showbiz thing" and "real" stories are happening: No. It's a President thing and a decency thing, and if you don't understand that those things are newsworthy, you are failing in your duties.

Of all 2025's big movie performances, the one sticking with me most is Tonatiuh in KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN. I don't know why there aren't tons of awards-baiting clips online showcasing his phenomenal range in this Broadway adaptation, playing a man who's about 10 different characters in turn.

Three weeks ago, I said "You gotta see WAKE UP DEAD MAN in theaters if you can." If you couldn't or didn't or want to revisit, it's on Netflix now. It may be my favorite movie of 2025: a knotty mystery, bold storytelling, beautiful cinematography, but most importantly, a film built around big ideas.
WAKE UP DEAD MAN, Rian Johnson's new KNIVES OUT movie, is in select theaters starting today. (Theater finder at the link below.) Yes, it's coming to Netflix, but I cannot emphasize enough how much cinephiles need to see it in theaters while they can. It's a gorgeous, lush, big-screen-sized film.
