Today in "Wait, WHAT?" I learned that Gene Wolfe — recondite, abstruse SF/F author Gene Wolfe — invented the machine that makes Pringles potato chips. It's on the company's own FAQ, which also implies his signature mustache may have inspired their ad mascot. www.pringles.com/en-us/faq.html
Oh @captainawkward.bsky.social, I believe you were specifically requesting your own copy of BLOODSONG OF WYCARO. Here you go! Just don't take it to one of Carol's signings, I hear she's pretty cranky, especially if you call her out on important maritime details.

Absolutely wild. I could understand POKER FACE being too expensive for Peacock to want to continue it, but the idea of losing Natasha Lyonne in the lead role and replacing her with Peter Dinklage makes it such a profoundly different show. I mean, he's great, but Charlie is the heart of the series.

This is a gorgeous, insightful review.

"Without its humor, PLURIBUS might be too sad and too lonely to enjoy, but while Carol is isolated inside her own strange new world, her reactions are so funny and so human that she's easy to attach to as a character.

And still, it is so, so sad."
One of the best shows in forever—achingly sad, hugely entertaining, and really REALLY thoughtful about important things like … the value of humanity. Really! And I gave away as little as I possibly could—almost nothing that’s not in the very opaque trailer.
In 'Pluribus,' isolation is the price of a frictionless life
The haunting new show from Vince Gilligan, who created Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, is set in Gilligan's now-signature location, Albuquerque.

Vince Gilligan's PLURIBUS premieres today on Apple TV, and it's hard to overstate how fascinated the Polygon crew has been with this show. It's addictive, it's startling, and it's easily the biggest discussion-starter series I've seen in 2025. I'm hoping it takes off like SEVERANCE. It deserves to.

Found this spectacular 1963 interview during research for our latest @thenextpictureshow.bsky.social. Famed Italian journalist Oriana Fallaci interviews Federico Fellini about 8 1/2. She calls him a liar. He calls her a bitch, and a treasure, and tries to get her in bed. It's packed with revelation.

Worst Cat in a rare morning moment of not being The Worst. Most mornings, Violet presents herself for washing and he gives her two vague licks, then bites her ear, like he's trying to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop.

Pictures really can't do justice to what's going on in the sky over Chicago right now, but here's the closest I've got.

My favorite part of curating an annual #Noirvember recs list from the Polygon staff is learning about noir movies I've never seen. There are some bangers in the "deep cuts" section here.

I'm feeling weirdly down about the end of PEACEMAKER. Yeah, I get it, Chris Smith is not a good guy, he's done terrible things for terrible reasons, and he earns a lot of his pain through bad choices. But James Gunn so consistently offers him a tiny spark of hope just to twist the knife on him.

Is the open goal here to have Austin entirely staffed by robots by 2030? Why is "You might have to say hi to another human being" an unbearable burden?

Welp, I did it. I booked an autonomous car ride back to the hotel after my last #FantasticFest screening. And it was creepy.🧵

It's Fantastic Fest's 20th anniversary, so all week, we've been getting preshow screenings of wild events from past fests, and it had me wondering where this year's over-the-top stunts were. Well, tonight's secret screening was Yorgos Lanthimos' BUGONIA...

Huh, just realizing as I'm writing that "a lot of elements at work" and "a lot of elements in play" mean fundamentally the same thing. Seems like they should be opposites.
