My limited experience has been the more that I do the more people I meet who are doing stuff and the more stuff they invite me to do. So at any given moment I can acknowledge how terrible the world is and I can point to people doing meaningful things and have those people in my ear about hope.
I genuinely think a lot of the most hopeless people are projecting. They aren’t doing anything, so it’s hard for them to imagine anyone else doing anything.

But people ARE doing stuff. Become one of those people and you’ll suddenly feel very, very differently about our current situation.

I just reduced background noise, chopped the 14 minutes into 3 minute segments each compressed under 100 mb for bsky's limits, cropped and rotated a few degrees for easier viewing on here

BREAKING: At Pope Leo XIV’s urging, U.S. Catholic bishops just delivered the strongest rebuke of a sitting president in Church history — condemning Trump-Vance raids as “inhumane” and “dehumanizing” in a 216–5 vote.
NEW: At Pope Leo’s Urging, Bishops Issue Historic Rebuke of Trump’s Raids
Nearly all U.S. Catholic bishops united in Baltimore to denounce the Trump administration’s “inhumane” deportation campaign — a near-unanimous, unprecedented moral stand against a sitting president.

I’m no great fan of the ACA.

I believe we should guarantee health care as a human right through a single-payer Medicare for All system.

But — at minimum — we cannot allow Republicans to destroy our already-broken system by doubling insurance premiums for 20 million Americans.

Ellis: Federal agents described a number of protestors as "professional agitators" based on their use of whistles, in part.

"Describing neighborhood moms and rapid response groups as professional agitators shows just how out of touch these agents are and how incredible their statements are."

"The fact that people can be courageous is utterly irrelevant" as to whether agents' activity caused a chilling effect, the judge said.

I am really trying to get people to understand how much what is happening to our children in Chicago with regard to ICE abductions is like school shootings/gun violence: the random and massive exposure to this particular violence will imprint on a generation and no privilege can fully shield you.
This was horrific to watch. Agents entering a daycare, wrestling with and abducting a teacher in front of small screaming children. I just… what the fuck are we doing here.
this morning, ICE went into a Spanish language immersion daycare and took a teacher from the building in front of screaming and crying kids and parents at dropoff and the daycare had to shut down for the day (near Lane Tech, where they were yesterday). Really hoping today's "theme" is not "daycare."

The factional grifters will hate this, but the Mamdani-Spanberger-Sherrill axis actually suggests the outlines of a broad, emerging Dem coalition organized around both anti-Trump *and* affordability politics, not a party bitterly divided against itself.
These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.

A pro-affordability, anti-Trump-corruption message unites the party. Every candidate can run on that, and every candidate can have their own take to fit that to their constituents. There's really no need to find fights to pick when the party agrees on more than it disagrees
Came here to say this, but Jamelle Bouie has this covered. 👇
When the Democratic tent includes candidates like Spanberger and Mamdani, there is no crisis, or fight, for the party. IT’S A COALITION, NOT A POINT ESTIMATE.
i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist

A central part of ICE's strategy here is to keep detainees hungry and thirsty in squalor to incentivize them to sign self-deportation papers to escape their inhumane conditions. And of course, they also lie to their captives about what they are signing.
Agustin Zamacona, who speaks and reads English, further says an agent in Broadview tried to get him to sign a self-deportation form by telling him it was court paperwork.

"I saw they weren't court papers, they were for deportation, so I didn't sign it," he says.
