I think I've just worked out why I can't stand literary fiction
It’s simple:

Sad man = LitFic
Sad man with dog = Romance
Sad man with whiskey = Crime
Sad man with talking dog = Fantasy
Sad robot = Science fiction
Any kind of woman lead whatsoever = Chicklit

The truth is there are three kinds of people: the disabled, the pre-disabled, and the doomed to die suddenly. Most of us will be disabled at some point.
You’re much closer to becoming disabled or homeless than you are to becoming rich and wealthy.

It’s not a moral failing. It’s not something you can “try harder” your way out of.

We need robust social supports & safety nets to ensure everyone is properly cared for.

i feel like people assume biphobia is like getting half-homophobia, when really it's catching situational homophobia AND also a whole other structural thing as well.
Bi+ women are more likely than straight and gay women to experience domestic abuse, regardless of the gender of our partner, but we're told we could avoid it if we avoided cis het men. This is victim blaming, and Gold Star Biphobia.

For anyone who needs to hear this: life is too short to finish a book you're not enjoying.

Prose is annoying you? Don't finish it.
It feels like a chore to pick up and read? Don't finish it.
Just not feeling it? Don't finish it.

We're not in class. There won't be a test. Read for *your* enjoyment.

TIL that for some people with irreparably damaged corneas, you can pull one of their teeth, drill a hole in it, install an artificial lens, sew it into their cheek (so tissue attaches), then pull it out and stick it in their damaged eye, and ... it works fine!?! www.nbcboston.com/news/health/...
Man, 34, is no longer blind after tooth is implanted in eye in 'crazy' surgery
Tooth-in-eye surgery sounds like science fiction, but it can help people with severely damaged corneas see again. A patient and his doctors describe what it's like.

Need some sweetness and hope in your life? Maybe a little cry? Try MR COLLINS IN LOVE, my m/m romance Pride and Prejudice retelling - told from the POV of young autistic clergyman Mr Collins books2read.com/u/mgByoD
I read this book today and I absolutely loved it and did I cry a little because it was so sweet? yes I did. and I don't even like Jane Austen very much, this is just a very lovely and very good and kind love story
Apparently 19 August is Potato Day in the US. I'm a little late but if you'd like to celebrate why not buy a book about a man who loves that exemplary vegetable?

Shout out to everyone only now learning that "Albert Einstein was reclusive at the end of his career, shunning public engagements."

Really meant,

"For the last *20 years* of his career, Einstein opposed US racism by only speaking publicly at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

This frontispiece in my book just made me laugh a lot. Is this Buddhist reincarnation, or some other form of afterlife?

Not to keep going on about it, but I see a lot of well meaning takes on the left about the Ian Dunt thing saying, "Well it's bad that when boys search for 'why don't I have a GF?' fasc stuff comes up, but it's complex...."

The 1968 Zeffirelli version of Romeo and Juliet. Vividly, there were, however briefly, boobs in school. Sadly for teens everywhere, the Luhrmann film came out shortly after, though I definitely enjoyed that too.
Name something you remember watching in this!
