diving with a bait ball was one of the most surreal nature experiences I've ever had... just swimming through and around a massive murmuration of fish, surrounded by walls of identical creatures, which surge and swerve as predators pick them off... totally mind blowing

One of earliest windows among medieval wonders in St Neot, Cornwall is the Creation, c.1480, w 95% original glass. Tracery lights feature degrees of angelic powers.
Bribery, plus 'liming' of the medieval windows, preserved them from 1650s Parliamentarian extremists.

I'll say again: we are oddly selective about the government services about which we will say, they operate at a loss.

We say Amtrak and the post office "lose money" but we never say highways, the court system, the Pentagon, etc lose money
The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

They are being replaced with Trump’s birthday.

This is horrific and exactly what those of us in Black studies, gender studies, women’s studies have been warning our colleagues in the sciences about. Their seeming neutrality will not save them.
Heartbreaking. The University of Nebraska will terminate its entire Earth science department.

One of the country's most successful and respected geology & climate programs: gone.

When ideologues & politicians are threatened by the very act of studying climate change, I wonder: who of us is next?
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.

Congress has turned the unlimited power of the Federal GOV on the non-profit Center for Biological Diversity

Why? Bc the CBD is opposing a foreign-owned corporation from mining the Boundary Waters Canoe National Wilderness in MN

Old enough to remember when USFWS would be fighting this obscenity…

AAP is not changing its recommendations in response to the CDC vaccine panel; they diverged on covid shots as well
The decision by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to downgrade its recommendations to protect infants from hepatitis B is a dangerous move that will harm children.
