So much going on this weekend but if you are in the Seattle area on Sunday at noon consider coming to join Nancy Rawles & me (I illustrated) celebrating her novel My Jim for its 20th anniversary re-issue. B&N in Issaquah.

Seattle area folks, join us next Sunday, November 9 for a reading and celebration of Nancy Rawles' novel My Jim which I illustrated, reissued for its 20th anniversary. Like James, the story is in conversation with Huckleberry Finn and tells the story of Jim's wife Sadie left behind in slavery.

Just finished The Salt Path by Raynor Winn - just lovely. The movie trailer looked so good that I wanted to read it before I watched the movie.

Taking a doom break to say that the two hours I spent in my garden to start the day were psychic gold.

Penguin Random House has reissued My Jim by Nancy Rawles, a slim novel that like James is in conversation with Huckleberry Finn. Proud to have illustrated it. Wonderful cover by Lauren Dong.

We have had a precipitous decline in our tree frog population and had given up hope for this year but saw this fine fellow in the pond this afternoon. Hold a good thought.

Western Washington SCBWI folks: you should come to this Unconference on May 3rd - Mark Holtzen is awesome as are we all. It's a sweet chance for kidlit folks to gather in person. I'll post the registration info in the comments though you can just walk in and be included.

#EarthDay. Because to want to save something you must love it. #kidlit

Wilderness and our relationship to the earth is something that kids grasp intuitively. Get a kid started on recycling and it's a lifetime commitment.

#EarthDay. Because to want to save something you must love it. #kidlit

Kids love to get up close and personal, they love detail and facts and illustrations. And if the text is also lovely? So much the better.

April is Poetry Month. The spell of poetry is a rich vein in picture books. As it should be.

Discovery and wonder - if you let this drive you with an open heart the world expands and grows more loving IMHO.
