"They released their insane asylum population into our country" -- Trump still thinks that people who make political asylum claims come from insane asylums

FEMA is preparing to distribute $608M to the states for the construction of new immigrant detention facilities. The funding is part of the Trump admin’s broader effort to "expand the nation's capacity to detain migrants, amid heightened immigration enforcement and surging border apprehensions".

Today, in the age of Donald Trump, we face a government which is indeed willing to directly terrorize people in this country with the threat of torture (even if in a distant land).
The Trump Administration Is Reviving Institutionalized Torture
The ambient threat of torture is a form of social control, encouraging everyone else to comply with and bow down before the regime.

The DOJ lawsuit against LA for not helping with federal immigration policy violates the 10th Amendment, which provides that powers not granted to the federal government are reserved to the states as independent sovereigns.

Federal Efforts to Punish Sanctuary Cities Are Unconstitutional
While states and cities can choose to help enforce federal law, the 10th Amendment means that the U.S. government can’t force them to do so.

While Trump's fascist budget cuts the funding for Medicaid, SNAP, and education, he and Nazi Noem used $200M for TV commercials thanking Trump for his immigration policy.

Noem said Trump directed her to issue the ads thanking him.

That's $200 million of our taxpayer money for this propaganda bs.

The incompetence of this administration is stunning.
Two days after the floods in Texas, FEMA failed to answer two-thirds of incoming calls. Contractors were laid off on July 5th, and Kristi Noem didn’t renew their contracts until five days later.

We do have a secret police in the United States now. Unidentified agents, without accountability, serving an autocrat and targeting law-abiding people who present no threat.
🚨NEW: When ICE raided a Californian farm yesterday, they snatched & disappeared a disabled US veteran who was in his car.

They smashed his window, peppered sprayed him & dragged him to the floor.

Listen to his wife & sister here, distraught. No-one will tell them where he is.

DOJ was broken before Trump got in. It is, in fact, *how* Trump got in: DOJ started investigating him in 1973 but refused to prosecute, instead maintaining a decades-long corrupt collaboration. Beware any podcaster/pundit/pol who told you to trust DOJ over the past decade. That was a propaganda op.

Fascists talk about feminism to destroy trans people.
They talk about equality to destroy diversity.
They talk about fairness to destroy justice.

Stop extending to fascists any benefit of the doubt, and withdraw it from any who insist on extending it. They are just two arms of the same beast.

ICE *already* can't meet their detainment numbers without rounding up children, veterans, people born in the U.S., people with no criminal records, people at immigration hearings, plus academics and visitors with valid visas.

So who do they plan to detain with >10x the budget?

The answer is: you.
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:

- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.

1. Alert, and please share widely. A lawyer at the ACLU has asked me to inform my transgender readers that they should NOT be applying for passports right now - the state department has not issued guidance to comply with the court order and they are urgently trying to get them to do so.
🧵
I am getting multiple reports that the Trump admin is NOT complying with the court order requiring passport updates for transgender people.

Some passport agencies are being told not to give trans people passports with their correct gender marker, for now.
#Trans folks in the US who are reapplying for their passport to be fixed. Don't bother. Just had an emergency appointment today (I travel on the 30th) and they cannot issue me a corrected #passport. All decisions regarding this 'issue' are on hold until they receive guidance from the head office.

The Tea Party protests in April 2009 had about a third of a million people involved, and the political media treated it like a game changer for the Obama presidency.

The No Kings rallies were AT LEAST ten times bigger than the Tea Party protests. Will the press keep pretending Trump is popular?
Based on crowd-sourced records of No Kings Day event turnout, and extrapolating for the cities where we don't have data yet, it looks like roughly 4-6 million people protested Trump across the U.S. yesterday. That's nearly 2% of the U.S. pop!

Mobilized anti-Trump resistance is exceeding 2017 levels
"No Kings Day" protests turn out millions
Our unofficial estimate is that around 4 million people attended a protest event yesterday. Anti-Trump resistance is outpacing 2017.
