Vaccines have health benefits you didn’t even know about. Get your flu shots yearly, and shingles shots as soon as you are eligible.
Acute and chronic viral infections, including Herpes Zoster (Shingles), Hepatitis C, HIV, CMV, influenza, and SARS-CoV-2, are linked with a substantial increased risk of cardiovascular events, from a systematic review. Figure for SARS-CoV-2 below

Studying neutrophils is not easy. Exciting to see that they can acquire longterm changes associated with epigenetic reprogramming.

Great meeting! The exchange with fellow Emmy-Noether-awardees is an extremely valuable feature that other early career grants lack! Thanks for making this possible @dfg.de

Excited to see this paper out. Durability is the holy grail of vaccine design. 💉 Here, we made the unexpected discovery that megakaryocytes, the cells that produce wound-healing platelets, can support long lasting vaccine immunity! #BiologyIsWild! 🧬🔬 Glad I could be part of this wonderful team!

CDC just confirmed the first severe case of #H5N1 in the US in a patient in Louisiana. This virus seems to be the same genotype D1.1 that is spreading in birds at the moment (so not the cattle genotype B3.13) that severely sickened the teenager in Canada. #IDsky 🧪

This is really horrific. These single cell reference atlases are widely used as is to train all kinds of models! This is one of the reasons I've constantly harping about uniform reprocessing & extremely careful QC of large atlases. 1/
scRNA-seq has revolutionized biology, but it’s not without challenges. We uncovered significant quality issues in widely used reference cell atlases like the Human Cell Atlas and Tabula Sapiens. Up to 85% of cells in some datasets are low-quality or misidentified!

Thrilled to see this study! Three years ago, we uncovered an IRF/AP-1-driven epigenetic program boosting antiviral resistance after flu vaccination. Amazing to see similar myeloid plasticity and reduced inflammation emerging beyond influenza. Immunology never ceases to amaze! 😊
