Moral of the story here is that every city has its own Train Daddy (gender-neutral), you just have to go find them.

Major announcement in just-posted board documents: DC's Metro is moving fast toward automation.

Over 15 years, Metro plans full automation & platform screen doors, which the agency says will improve safety, reliability, & travel times—at reduced costs.

Two thoughts that occupy my head simultaneously:

1) The razing of Bunker Hill in the 50s and 60s was a crime against humanity.

2) That liminal period in the late 70s/early 80s, after the neighborhood was flattened but before it was redeveloped, was eerie and sublime and exquisite.

24/7 Orange Line and other such things would be nice, but I would hope the CTA would use the extra $ mainly to do something about the maintenance backlog.

We should not have cause to put *insets* in the slow zone map.

Should go further: all bus routes should be number [letter (optional)] and all rail lines should be letter-number. Can continue to colloquially call the CTA’s lines by color but on maps they’d be “L1”, “L2”, etc. Worth noting that Metra’s recent line renaming efforts would fit into this scheme as-is
Don't get mad but we should redo the bus numbers. The way they did the 70, 72, 73, 74, 76, 77, 78, 80, 81, and 84 is so intuitive (tells you how far north you are).

What Senate Democrats need to understand is that anything other than hardline McConnell-esque obstruction will be read as a capitulation and we won’t listen to any explanations otherwise.

Utrecht light rail planning be like:

> build high-floor light rail
> rebuild your system to low-floor bc it looks nicer in the streetscape
> replace your central axis by a grade-separated tunnel or viaduct you could also operate with high-floor vehicles
> ???
> profit
From the documents I have seen so far they are actually proposing getting rid of the Light-Rail alignment between Centraal and Westraven and completely replacing it with this grade-separated new alignment.

Listened to the radio a lot while we were in LA, because what else is there to do when you're stuck in traffic on 101, and if you want to know what California radio is like, just listen to these ads mixed with some good rock/soul/funk/hip hop and you're about there. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jn8j...
