Today T6 Nord tramway opened in Lyon. The project isn't very big (just 5.5 km) but the timeline is just impressive: the project was launched in 2020, 3 years for planning, design, public consultation, permitting and contracting and less than 3 years for construction.

Brussels finally has a government, some 600 days after the election!

But unfortunately it's now confirmed that the metro 3 project is abandoned. They'll finish the grade separation of the tracks between Gare du Midi and Annessens but they'll keep running trams. What a fiasco this has all been.

Tried out this weird sort-of interurban BRT to the west of Strasbourg:

Inbetween villages, buses have their own lane and can queue jump cars. There's also some other signal priorisation and quite a dense timetable for a French regional bus

But those high-floor buses with front-door boarding only 🫠

I recently went to the library and studied old timetables. Looking at the map, Karlsruhe trams did consolidate a number of stops on the network

On the "main" axis Knielingen-Durlach, 6 less stops, signal priorisation and the tram tunnel meant 11 min faster running times (not same route anymore tho)
very basic sketch of me scribbling onto the 1953 map. in red are stops and routes abolished since then, in green are stops and routes built since then. (To be honest, on some lines, trams were actually withdrawn after 1953 and then reintroduced in the past 30 years). Note that also a number of stops were renamed in case you're comparing this to the current KVV map note: the dashed lines are buses, I didn't concern myself about them 1953 timetable of line 1 Knielingen to Durlach in both directions (daily service), showing a 10 minute service every day from about 6 am to 23 (11pm). In total services run from about 3 am to 1 am. The standard running time is 42 minutes current journey in the KVV journey planner from Knielingen Herweghstraße to Durlach Turmberg. The S5 segment from Herweghstraße to Marktplatz takes 16 mins, the 1 segment from there to Durlach takes 15 mins Subtracting the 3 mins interchange time, today's running time would be 31 mins. 1953 42 mins (1) Knielingen - Durlach 2026 16 mins (S5) Knielingen Herweghstraße - Marktplatz 15 mins (1) Marktplatz - Durlach Turmberg = 31 mins to be fair, a lot of that is the tram tunnel: Mühlburger Tor - Tullastraße/Schlachthof 1953: 13 mins 2016: 15 mins 2026: 9 mins

After 42 years, trains run again between Weil der Stadt and Calw - and I was on the very first train! 🥳

Changing in Weil der Stadt or Renningen, Calw residents can now go to Stuttgart or Böblingen by train. Currently hourly, once the bats get used to the trains, they'll be half-hourly from April 🦇

Not impressed at all. Awful ride quality, white seats that’ll look filthy in no time (just like on TPE), and the same terrible standard-class seats as the GWR/LNER Class 800s.

Maybe the Mark 5As should just have stayed retired. 🚮🚆
