Breast cancer update! It's been a while. I'm done with chemo and getting ready to start radiation. Everything is going as well as can be expected.

I've been writing about my experiences, in case anyone is interested in reading my cancer blog: ashekillscancer.com

Just so you’re aware, every library in LA is offering free masks right now due to the fires. Another reason to love libraries! Let’s hope they continue after the fires are over. Masks save lives in many ways.

I'm uncomfortable with the inevitable "his work was always crap" because it seems to say "you can tell who the predators are by how well they write" and ... no no you absolutely cannot, that's the whole point.

How did I miss this when it came out 10 years ago? The author of Mists of Avalon, a book I've loved since I was a teenager, was a child molester and was also married to one. FFS. Why are so many humans monsters?

There has been a lot of bleak news lately, so I wanted to share this feel-good story to help cheer people up.

I don't like going out because wherever I'm going there will probably be zero places to lie down while at home I have like 2 or 3 really good ones

I thought long covid was worse than ME. Now I'm not so sure.

Maybe ME sufferers have been silenced more effectively.

one of the unfortunate things about PEM is that in the early stages, it doesn't necessarily look like PEM. it's just "work has been extra busy this month and I need a break" or "some mystery bug knocked me out for the weekend".

By the time you realize, it's too late.

I know from experience. #pwME
For too many of us the M.E. diagnosis comes when we’ve seriously deteriorated. Maybe years after onset and repeated unrecognised PEM.

Despite seeing GPs and specialists, we’re told nothing is wrong and spend years having our bodies damaged, for some permanently.

This has to stop.

Freddy Mercury died of AIDS 33 years ago today. With modern medical technology, he likely would have lived. Never forget how much progress against major infectious disease has been made in a short time. We are at risk now of rolling back much of that progress.

The "bluesky is an echo chamber" think pieces that keep popping up really tickle me because they show how certain people genuinely believe social media should be for debating and arguing and not talking about the things that make you happy and sharing art with the world.

Also: If you don't have money to buy my (or anyone's) books, and you live in the anglosphere, before you pirate them, try to get them from your local library instead. They have it or can get it, they pay for the books, and in many places writers get paid for their books being lent. Everyone wins!

*whispers* Glasses are a disability and accessibility aid. They've just been normalized so people don't generally think of them as such. Now, imagine if all other aids were just as destigmatized and normalized.
