I saw a raccoon and a deer chowing down on some foliage on the side of the road while driving home tonight... this is what solidarity looks like...
I do think this is the worst month for MAGA in a while, maybe their worst since November 2020? Terrible losses in Virginia and NJ, Mamdani rolling Trump in the Oval Office, having to fold on the Epstein files, the knowledge of likely heavier losses to come. Massive W for democracy.

Obvious example in Wisco is the WOW counties: still extremely Republican (esp Washington), but the declines for the GOP have been real, and they've often been unable to make up for it with rural votes. Ozaukee County might vote for a Democrat for the first time since Herb Kohl next year.
An ironic development of the Trump years is seeing places like Whitesonlyville that came about in the 60s, and 70s as a result of white flight now becoming places where the Republican Party is losing support.
Underrated result from last Tuesday, Abigail Spanberger put in one of the best Democratic performances in Colonial Heights in probably 60+ years.

It's an old white flight city south of Richmond, but has become more diverse. Harris lost it by 32 in 2024 (which was actually better than Biden)

something i'll note is that if nuzzi ran catch-and-kill ops for rfk jr and lizza knew this prior to him being appointed as HHS, and instead of telling anyone, he decided to save it for his substack long after rfk jr had made communicable disease into federal policy, that's completely fucked

The Virginia Democrats flipped the last Republican-held seat in Loudoun County blue this year when they won #HD30.

John McAuliff was the one to do so, winning this Trump+1 district by two points. This makes him the most successful Virginian named McAuliff(e) this decade

Incredible, in the original sense of that word, that this was the newspaper that broke Watergate.
The Washington Post editorial board decided the Epstein files have “no public interest” before even seeing them. That’s a stunning position for any newsroom to take. Praising Clay Higgins as the lone ‘no’ vote, too? No wonder no one trusts legacy media. Absolutely disgusting.

If your primary political commitment is hating liberals, eventually you will just be a conservative.

Feel like this take from February aged pretty well. The issue isn't "will Republicans pay devastating electoral consequences for this?" They already have, and very likely will continue to. It's the damage being done in the interim before they get tossed out that I'm worried about.
The VA GOP is facing a potential apocalyptic wipeout this November as they sign onto Trump and Musk's war on the civil servants that power much of the state's economy. The issue here isn't a question of, "will elections happen?" it's what damage will be done before they do.

Case in point: Any of you ever heard of Anthony Gonzalez? He was a backbencher Republican congressman from Ohio. I had never heard of him until he was one of the handful of Republicans who voted to impeach Trump after J6.

Then the death threats to him and his family started. (1/2)
Not the only person making this observation but the MTG thing is actually pretty explainable by the fact that Trump has a disciplined group of fanatical loyalists who will threaten death upon dissenters from him.

People are reading a lot into this, but I think all the death threats and harassment from the chuds probably just wasn't worth it to her anymore. The terrorists loyal to Trump are real.

As this post alludes to, it is incredibly important to remember that Bill Cassidy was the deciding vote to confirm RFK Jr. I just can't see anything he says or does at this point as anything other than image management. He could have stopped this. He chose not to.
Senator Bill Cassidy, who voted to confirm RFK JR, just posted this.

Imo, another big reason is that democrats broadly, and people on bsky specifically, trust mamdani. We believe that he shares our values. Incumbent democrats burned that trust a lot over the last few years, to such an extent that we demand greater shows of loyalty than we do of Mamdani
a significant reason Mamdani can get away with this and other Dems can’t is less that he’s charmed Trump and more that he’s charmed you, dear reader, which is why you’re not yelling at him for being a collaborator or an appeaser right now

I'm curious why Trump invited Mamdani to the White House. I think Mamdani is a very pragmatic politician (complimentary), hence why he's the mayor of NYC and not just some resentful leftie politics poster. Just don't really get what Trump saw as the benefit for himself here lol

I work with kids who are in Roblox's prime age range, and many of them do use the website, so it is kinda concerning when their top executive seems flippant about keeping kids safe on the platform.

Obviously the Nazis are far worse, substantively. But the social dynamics aren't all that dissimilar. People want to accommodate themselves to the social environment and avoid conflict, so some pretty extreme or questionable (or just false or absurd) views find their way into the consensus

Everyone on here intuitively understands that hanging out with a bunch of Nazis on Twitter creates a powerful social pressure to accommodate yourself to far-right views, but then refuses to acknowledge that largely the same dynamic also exists on here with regard to some pretty nutty fringe leftists

I do think it's noteworthy when the president of the United States calls for political opposition to him to be killed, but I also get the @nytimes.com perspective: they've got more stories to crank out about Joe Biden being old.

This is definitely "I'll believe it when I see it" territory, but interesting to ponder a future where this is in the ballpark of reality (the last Democrat to win a majority of the white vote was Lyndon Johnson in 1964. So, you know, before most Americans living now were alive)
Generic Ballot Polling Among White Voters:

🔵 Democrats: 50%
🔴 Republicans: 46%

Congressional Democrats have implored members of the military to reject any illegal orders they may receive. President Trump has responded with Truth Social posts reading "HANG THEM" and “punishable by DEATH.” Weary voters just want both sides to turn down the temperature.
