Prosecute them all. Beyond the depravity of this, it's pure theft. The local prosecutor should open an investigation and charge them all.
ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

Irish woman with green card, bounced 2 checks totaling $80 ten years ago. For this "crime of moral turpitude," she was held pending deportation, no bond, and put in isolation for asking for low-sodium food.

It's great she's out. But also white privilege – 18 Senators wrote to Kristi Noem about her.
A grandmother will spend Christmas with her family after ICE held her for nearly five months. She’s had a green card for 30+ years and lived in the U.S. since childhood. Her detention ended only after public and congressional pressure.

Personal data and digital rights will eventually become a human rights conversation
I know this would be a bitch for documentaries but maybe we need to start having private citizens own their own images

I don’t know how it would work and I’m sure it’d be messy but what we’re doing rn sucks

So I have the cover story in next month's TNR.

I interviewed the heads of police groups; immigration defense attorneys, ex-judges and ex-prosecutors; former DOJ and DHS officials, and the former head of Border Patrol.

They're all horrified at what we've seen, and they all fear what's coming.

also interesting that the administration thinks it has a say in CBS News personnel matters. perhaps they've been given an indication that they do.
It’s interesting that the administration wants you to know that Bari Weiss is in league with them.

I think this is a really important point. When folks say "no AI" they often don’t mean "I can conceive of no possible use for AI"—they mean "the use cases I’ve been shown do not begin to justify the harms"—that’s not something you respond to by offering another narrow use case
So when I say there is *zero* utility for LLMs, I don't mean there are zero use cases. I mean there are zero use cases that even begin to make up for the damage that's being done.

Leaks, hacks, data dumps, releases of big document caches.

Journalists and the public will have to learn how to digest this stuff. 🧵

People must grasp the idea of “media capture.”
It’s when authoritarian regimes and/or their powerful allies take control of media to stifle independent voices holding the government to account.
It’s one way Hungary’s Viktor Orbán keeps power.
In the U.S., it’s what the Ellisons have done with CBS.
