Based on crowd-sourced records of No Kings Day event turnout, and extrapolating for the cities where we don't have data yet, it looks like roughly 4-6 million people protested Trump across the U.S. yesterday. That's nearly 2% of the U.S. pop!

Mobilized anti-Trump resistance is exceeding 2017 levels
"No Kings Day" protests turn out millions
Our unofficial estimate is that around 4 million people attended a protest event yesterday. Anti-Trump resistance is outpacing 2017.

I only need 5 minutes to complete my financial disclosures every year cause I own zero stocks. The same should be true for all members of Congress. We must ban Congressional stock trading.

My hunch is that 2024 will be the year when the AI industry is visited by the Ghost of Napster.

AI evangelists keep insisting that old copyright law is going to have to bend to accommodate new technology. They have that backward.

Started off the new year right with a little light reading, Poverty, By America by Matthew Desmond.

The book does a good job capturing all the various ways the poor are hemmed in as well as a succinct survey of ways we can help (e.g., reform welfare laws, change municipal zoning, etc).

Hard to fathom. Philadelphia’s Department of Human Services takes $1.3 million in Social Security benefits supposed to go to support 380 foster kids per year as “repayment” for the “services” they provide.

“Stealing money from foster kids.” Read this:
Philly still keeps the benefits of foster care youths despite a 2022 law banning the practice
Despite the city's new law, DHS acknowledges it’s still keeping the money meant for foster kids — about $1.3 million in Social Security benefits for 380 children in a typical year.

My family paid $10 to the forest service to go cut down a tree which made for a fun if stressful half-day family adventure (not pictured).

In unrelated news, Home Depot still has a selection of Christmas trees that are relatively straight and taller than five feet.

The difference is that the media thinks of Clinton as a person who should know better. They think of Trump as a fascinating monster. This has the odd effect of making Clinton's very human expression of exasperation seem monstrous, while humanizing Trump's monstrosity.
NEW STUDY: Broadcast, cable, and print outlets have given Donald Trump calling his enemies "vermin" a tiny fraction of the coverage they gave Hillary Clinton's 2016 remark calling some Trump supporters "deplorables" www.mediamatters.org/donald-trump...
