Kevin Buist reflects on Mitchell F. Chan’s “Zantar” games, crypto, and the attention economy
www.artforum.com
For @artforum.com I wrote about @chan.gallery's series of "Zantar" video game artworks, which I saw and played at Nguyen Wahed in New York in May. These works are funny, sad, and a biting critique of crypto, the attention economy, and gamified finance. www.artforum.com/columns/mitc...

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.
The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.
The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.
Why?
It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

Hold on, he's talking about how great The Iliad is, but he's linking to The Odyssey. He can't even read the title.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is held in Los Angeles, but the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is in Cleveland. I think you shouldn't be allowed to be inducted unless you travel to Cleveland. That has to be part of the deal.

In a way that was the horse that "AI" rode into town on: When even people who put their skills and souls and will into making something refer to it as abstract, alienated "content", why even bother?
"Content" is "proto-Slop".
"Content" is "proto-Slop".
1000 times this. It's the worst when writers or illustrators or filmmakers apply that to their own works. So fucking degrading.
No other word has done more damage to the craft of writing in recent years than “content”. Even if you’re using the word “content” ironically, or as a cute little joke, don’t. When someone calls writing “content” they’re pissing on someone’s hard work & passion. “Content” is Technosatan’s henchword.

It's really maddening to have to tolerate Elon's continued role in society. He killed hundreds of thousands of people - this year alone! - by illegally destroying USAID. That should have been the last thing he did before a life in prison. I don't really get why people talk about him in other terms.

So the oldest person ever to become president keeps falling asleep in his office during public events and there’s no big public discussion on how this is a coverup or how republicans are lying to us about how this government is running?

Dem gains in this week's elections erased the inroads Trump made with non-white, young, and low-income voters in 2024. In fact, the R-to-D shift from 24 to 25 is double Trump's gains from 20-24. Claims of a GOP political realignment have been highly exaggerated
