If you are able to look at this and still not see the Gestapo. You have not only failed at the Christian you say you are.
You have failed at being a human.
You are the person who turned away when children were being murdered in gas chambers.
It didn’t start in gas chambers.

I've had an idea...

Someone told me that cos there are nearly 800 episodes of the Simpsons, it's possible to describe all other shows with a clip from a Simpsons episode. So with that in mind, I'm going to use a freezeframe/gif to describe every classic Dr Who serial 😁 1 season per day...

“He would sidle up to me and growl: ‘Hitler was right,’ or ‘Gas them,’ sometimes adding a long hiss to simulate the sound of the gas showers".

For reasons I needed to watch Its a Wonderful Life again last night.

Will do a thread closer to Christmas about it, but next time you watch it, remember this:

Both Capra and Stewart had just come back from WW2. Consider every directing, script and acting decision with that context in mind.

For Shabana Mahmood to attack some of the most cruelly treated people in the world as having won a "golden ticket" because they manage to get to and claim asylum in Britain is unforgiveable.

A new, far right, low for which I can think of no precedent, by any UK Government.

I hate this so much.
Really not coping well atm. Everything is shit, I don't know how long my overdraft is going to last and Labour are cranking up the hostile environment rhetoric. Sure, I have settled status now but I don't trust them to not just revoke it on a whim because I'm obvs. not contributing to society. FML

Just watched the trailer for Wuthering Heights. Genuinely unsure whether anyone who's worked on the film has ever read the book. Or so much as seen a copy of the book from across a crowded room. It looks awful. Plus, describing it as the world's greatest love story betrays an utter misunderstanding.

This is what I try to always tell people: food banks can do way more with your money than you can, due to bulk buying deals. And they can do way, way more with your money than with the canned goods you didn’t want to eat
spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

This. For me, melodrama heroes - James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, the Doctor, John Steed - aren't characters. They're events. Someone is planning to take over the world, but James Bond happens to them - he shags their wife, drops their henchman off a tall building and kills them in an amusing manner...
Melodrama heroes are built to have infinite adventures. But to do that *they cannot change or grow*. Change and growth can happen to those *around* them, but Batman can't say "you know what? Dressing up like a bat and beating people up is silly."

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.
