The excesses of America’s most powerful people “would end sooner if more Americans saw what Mr. Trump and Mr. Musk are doing: ushering in a new era of brazenness that will persist as long as people buy the hype and cheer the flexes,” William Cohan writes.

Moreover, the same incompetent Trump DOJ that screwed their own pooch in Texas is trying to argue the CA maps are racially drawn. In fact, they are expressedly partisan, so they are likely to withstand the latest challenge from Trump's Band of Bothers, per @marcelias.bsky.social

No institution or person who caved or caves to Trump can ever be fully trusted again. This includes many universities and the people who run them and the owners of many news orgs. Remember their names and deeds.
*Every single* institution, organization, and individual who caved into Trump already looks worse for having done so.

And every one that stood up continues to look better.
Man, CBS must feel really stupid right now!

Just kidding, CBS wasn't settling a lawsuit. They were paying a bribe and they knew it.

Florida has 13.4 million registered voters.
41% are Republican
32% are Democrat
25% are independent
And the rest are third parties

They have 28 congressional seats.

MAGA wants to make Republicans (less than half of voters) control 88% of congressional seats.

Covering Jamal Khashoggi's murder was one of the most disturbing things I've worked on. Hearing Trump say he was "extremely controversial" and people "didn't like him" is chilling. Hard to take any other way than he thinks there is moral ambiguity in the murder of a journalist.

In 2004, Higgins became a patrol officer for the Opelousas City police department. By 2007, police chief Perry Gallow was prepared to take major disciplinary action against Higgins who was accused of beating a Black man who was handcuffed and lying about it. He resigned to avoid disciplinary action!

I expected the Saudi Royal Mafia to act like thugs. That's who they are. That's what they do. But I expected so much better of an American president.

At that time, it was the most ashamed of this country I had ever been. (I know ... that sounds quaint now, right?)

Seems like a good day to revisit why I chose this screen name a little over seven years ago. A 🧵

It was about a week after Jamal Khashoggi was murdered, and the first time (that I know of) that Trump was asked about it.

In all seriousness, how this possibly unfold other than with the administration stalling and blocking every attempt to see full unredacted materials?
! Chuck @schumer.senate.gov asks unanimous consent that the Senate immediately read and pass the bill to release the Epstein files, un-amended, "as soon as it comes over from the House." No objections. Motion succeeds. Bill is deemed to the Senate unanimously, will go to Trump to become law.

🧵Bonus good news about the Texas congressional maps decision: the original Prop 50 language said the maps in CA would be withdrawn if Texas did not redraw. That language was pulled, so the Prop 50 maps stand.

Trump doesn’t really do retail politics. He might do a 3 minute drop into a cafe in little Havana when in Florida, but it’s not his thing.

He is a germaphobe, he doesn’t do small talk, and he doesn’t want to get into the weeds of people’s problems.
Jesse Watters on Fox is encouraging the WH to send Trump all over the country to cattle ranches and other retail politics locations to campaign on affordability.

If you’ve seen his travel schedule this year, idk if they’re gonna be down for that, given Trump’s present condition

This is how the depraved, unprincipled Trump excuses the murder of Jamal Khashoggi : blame the victim.

“A lot of people didn’t like that gentleman that you’re talking about, whether you like him or didn’t like him, things happen,” he says sitting with the culpable MBS.

Sickening and infuriating.

Even the murderer, the guy who ordered the journalist to be executed and dismembered with a bone saw, looks a bit embarassed for our American president.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."
