Think about how much easier it would be to prosecute Hegseth for war crimes if Kissinger or Cheney and Rumsfield had been.

Can you even imagine how different the last few decades would be if Kissinger had faced literally any form of justice for his crimes.

dems spent 4 previous years post-failed coup trying to segregate the GOP into MAGA and non-MAGA factions and work to rehabilitate and normalize the non-MAGA ones as an effort to marginalize the MAGA faction. it was a disaster and they cannot do it again.

Your periodic reminder that @radiofreetom.bsky.social who many of you like to follow, and who writes for the Atlantic, was pushing the great replacement theory before Trump and has never apologized for it. He's part of what got us here.

Trump is filling his government with Nazis, consolidating authoritarian power, and eroding democracy at every chance.

And yet these 86 House Democrats voted for a right-wing messaging amendment to say that the real authoritarians are the socialists.

Pathetic.

Whatever's going on over there, it's not "earnest" or feminist.
It's a little cynical and opportunistic. And yet the women of the GOP really are asserting their power in tangible ways. The underlying dynamic is essentially earnest.

To my eyes, feels like feminism has gotten a foothold in enemy territory and is making gains in the war.

Being in one of those classes right now must be pretty weird
"Summers has continued to teach at Harvard since, interrupted by brief stints in Washington, and currently holds Harvard’s highest faculty distinction as a University Professor. This semester, he is teaching two large undergraduate courses and one graduate class."

Outdoor recreation for the men in solitary confinement in Massachusetts' maximum-security prison happens in a 200-300 square foot cage where you can’t see the sky.

One lawmaker describes what she saw as “truly mortifying.” The men call them “dog kennels.”
After Reforms to Solitary Confinement, Massachusetts Prisoners Say Officials Just Renamed It
The state passed a law curtailing restrictive housing in 2018, but people in prolonged isolation say the practice continues and are now pushing for new reforms.

Tom's mistake is that he conflates full blown authoritarianism with fascism. As if fascism only occurs when there has been full consolidation of power.

There are 2 major scholarly definitions of fascism both of which tom is ignorant of:

1) Palingenetic ultranationalism (Roger Griffin) /1
My mistake has been trying to explain what "fascism" is to people who don't care what it is.

So I'm going to try something else. Let's do this as a practical thought exercise.

If America *were* fascist *today* - what would you have to do differently in your daily life? /1

Activists and immigration attorneys warn that a Boston law enforcement program has created formal and informal channels for passing data to ICE. The city is applying to renew the federal grant that supports the program, adding to critics’ worries.
Bid to Renew Federal Grant Sparks Concern Boston May Help Trump’s DHS on Immigration
The grant helps fund a law enforcement center that’s drawn criticism over privacy and over data-sharing with ICE. It would also come with new strings to spend money on border control.
