But what about all the waste they told us about? What about all the savings DOGE was going to find? What about the promises to cut council tax?
It's almost as if they were just making shit up to fool people, like they did with Brexit.

Lords Heseltine & Kinnock seem more alive to these self-evident truths than most members of the Commons. Similarly, I find thinkers with direct lived experience of far right dictatorship, Greeks of a certain age for example, crystal clear about what’s happening now.
“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

England's hotel protesters say we should house the homeless rather than migrants. So where were these protesters when, in 2020, the pandemic protection ended for homeless people and they were chucked out of hotels and back on the streets?

Exactly.

We flounced out of the EU on the say-so of politicians who lied to us. And what a total shitshow that’s turned out to be. The polar opposite of what they promised. Now the call to flounce out of the ECHR. By the same people. Telling the same lies. Has the country been kicked in the head by a horse?

Yeah, Keir Starmer is an exasperated manager, Nigel Farage a golf club bore, Ed Davey an incompetent cuddly uncle but Kemi is every work colleague you’ve ever had who thought themselves to be superior to everyone around them, on steroids.
Badenoch is the most compelling of the current party leaders because of the gulf between who she believes herself to be (she visibly thinks she is a bold thinker) and the reality (incredibly lazy and partisan).

I’ve got an idea Kemi and Keir - instead of trying to outfvck the fvckery of Reform or Trump, why don’t you try sone unification policies, some nice words and an opportunity to bring back hope?

Or is that asking too much?

The closer than the Tories get to Reform, the more it makes sense for Labour to leave them to it and head back towards the centre. Stop bashing immigrants 24/7 and concentrate on the important stuff.

The US provides the most advanced case of what that can lead to. It is worth remembering that Farage could not even bring himself to criticise Trump's comments on paracetamol. I strongly urge everyone *not* to assume that this type of escalation cannot happen here - it already is in some areas.
