This took a while to get done, but I've chronicled my day among the protesters in Los Angeles, and the idea that this is anything but a celebration of cultural heritage and a firm, nonviolent demand to protect family, friends and neighbors is totally ridiculous.

Cries of Defiance and Songs of Joy in Los Angeles
The protesters are being called unspeakably violent by the Trump administration. I mostly saw clergy sit-ins and Tejano bands.

People tried so hard to follow the law, Byzantine and unjust as it is. They showed up at meetings, filled out the paperwork, went to the courthouse. You responded by kidnapping them in front of their children and dragging them to black sites. This is what’s left. This is all that’s left.

Interlibrary loans give rural Alaskans access to books that smaller libraries can't stock, sent from the Lower 48 if needed.

But the service could be eliminated if federal funding isn't approved by the end of June, under Trump administration budget cuts.
Federal cuts could end key library services for rural Alaskans
The programs allowed rural residents to access books and other materials that smaller libraries don't have the budget or space for.

Shout out to all of the faculty and students who made it through this semester in particular. What a time to be teaching and learning in spaces that are directly under attack from people who benefited from having access to the same resources themselves.

just so we’re all clear: the reason they keep using dolls as their example is because they’re trying to frame caring about material stuff as feminine and thus inherently shameful

Now that cruise season is in full swing, it's worth bumping this post. #Alaska
The first cruise ships of the season are showing up in Juneau, Alaska this week. With that in mind, I've created a list of Top Books for an Alaskan cruise vacation. It's organized by port cities and curated by me, an actual Alaskan librarian.

Just a reminder that most of Trump's executive orders are nothing more than press releases.

After he ordered the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to pull funding for NPR and PBS, the CPB responded that it is authorized and funded by Congress and is not subject to the president's authority.

I’ve confirmed with multiple State Dept. employees that the cable remains active. The fact that much larger outlets than mine are unable to independently verify this information is frankly nuts.
SCOOP — The US sent Iraqi refugee Omar Ameen to Rwanda via new diplomatic relationship in which they've agreed to act as a "third country" for deportees unable to be safely returned to their country of origin, per cables reviewed by me.

This is first reported instance. Cable indicates more to come.

A State Department cable indicates at least 10 more people will be subjected to the same.

Alright, Alaskans, 🚨 we need to be our pennies and brains to the test!

Fairbanks local Soup Kitchens plumbing line has failed.

They just got a $30K (minimum!) quote with no clear timeline on completion.

The work must be Insured, licensed & bonded!

We will be shaking the penny jar come May 1.
