Today the Supreme Court heard a very, very technical case about whether a government contractors (in this case, private prison company GEO Group) should get essentially qualified immunity for contractors (I'm oversimplifying). The answer, it seems, will be no.

These figures are in nominal terms, which is absolutely wild. Half the things listed here got cheaper or stayed the same *even without adjusting for inflation*.
Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.

If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

Good write up. Honestly as someone who reviewed housing elements at HCD, I found that time and again local planners and consultants used sneaky tactics to reduce the feasibility of multifamily housing. I find the insistence on local bottom-up reform to solve the housing crisis hopelessly naive.

We’ve made the largest investment in housing in state history and today, we rank as the top state for young homebuyers.

there's going to be a movie about an ice agent who brutalized children and dragged people screaming from their houses but it's ok because it turns out he couldn't read.
If they're still making movies in 15-20 years there will be multiple Oscar noms for playing "remorseful / reflective former ICE agent who knows how Complicated history is"

This MLB indictment is incredible. It alleges, among many other things, that a star Cleveland pitcher was placing bets *during a game* that a pitch he was about to throw would be a ball, and it would be under 98 mph.
