Why is the "we must be united!" hectoring directed at people who are mad at the Cavers and not to the Cavers? Everyone who's mad was united, then the Cave Caucus walked across the aisle and betrayed what the public had been told was the Dem position.
The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.

I don't understand why every software tool is now an AI Meeting Stenographer Bot. Who actually wants to have their meetings transcribed? Nobody is ever going to look at that again unless you get sued and then everyone has to censor themselves. It's ridiculous

The thing about the "I voted against this" position Schumer is taking is that either he is trying to mislead Dem voters by implying he didn't support reopening right now, or he has no control over his caucus.

The entire concept of health care being subject to "deals" as if your renal system is a Wayfair end table just shows the contempt in which Republicans hold human life. Rand Paul is a medical doctor!
I was at an event yesterday where Rand Paul spoke via video and talked about how great it was to send ACA money "directly to the people" so that they could work collectively to get better deals on health care.

Italian Pasta Is Poised to Disappear From American Grocery Shelves
The Trump administration is set to impose duties of 107% on Italian pasta imports, among most punitive of the tariffs it has levied.

On the one hand, very on-brand for this Orioles front office to hire a guy named Bourgeois. On the other hand, very off-brand that he's Black.

Friends, though I have never seen it, I know that It's Academic is one of the bedrock layers upon which the trivia/quiz bowl community is built, especially in the DC Metro Area. Please consider helping if you can.

Really unpleasant temperature outside 45°F/40°F real feel. Too cold to leave your jacket undone but not cold enough to avoid sweating with your jacket fastened. A meteorological no man's land

I have a relatively rigid dichotomy where I strongly prefer to read poetry and strongly prefer to listen to prose, particularly fiction. If i have a physical book in my hand it's a very strong bet that it's poetry, or less often some kind of nonfiction tome
i retain information better when it’s communicated to me aurally. you cannot govern me.
Dave, you can’t count a book as read if it was an audio book. You didn’t read it you listened to it. Two fundamentally different ways to ingest media. We as a country, need to stop people from saying they “read” 50 books this year when they actually listened to them. Absolute fraudulent behavior.

they're explicitly giving up. "It wasn't working so we quit" that's the message

The Democrats always have enough defectors to torpedo anything good or necessary. No matter the prevailing political winds or electoral math, the caucus will always yield a bad outcome. Next man up to fold. Functionally controlled opposition.

The whole point of being alive is to write poems, play music, gawk at pretty stuff, make love, and futz about. "We're dancing animals" as Kurt said. One of the most infuriating things about modern life is that the only people with the money on hand to buy back the time to do these things hate them.

Handing the government back to a fascist dictator in order to save the filibuster, a procedural technicality codified nowhere in American law let alone its founding charters. A nation halfway down the drain

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.
Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.

It is really hard to describe what is happening without sounding slightly crazy. It just doesnt make any sense
How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

Apparently, it is negotiable!
Health care isn’t negotiable.
We need to both reopen the government and work together to protect access to affordable health care by extending the ACA enhanced premium tax credits.
