Once a month, our union chapter cooks food for the Glory Hall shelter.

Tonight was mash potatoes/turkey, root veggies & asparagus, cranberry-apple goat cheese salad, dinner rolls, and one of our members dropped off pumpkin bars!

Love wild ice season!
Oh, hey, Alaska. 🤩🧊☀️⛸️ #AlaskaSky The wild ice season is ephemeral and I’m so grateful to get even one afternoon at skate church.

Next steps for this painting, the rocks on the right. These will be quite time-consuming, but if you look at the close-up for the area below the tree on the left, once it's all done, it'll be worth it.

What do you think so far?

A question I hear from community members is what does mutual aid look like & I always tell them it can look like almost anything.

This Asheville, NC herb collective is doing traditional herbal healing in their community. This is mutual aid.

Think expansively about mutual aid.

My 3rd grade class in Fort Yukon got to do a field trip to set and then check muskrat traps. Then we had muskrat stew.
Farm to table.....we had that back in grade school in the 70's in Alaska. This is Mary, our school cook that served us traditional foods. Moose stew, smoked salmon strips or smoked salmon mixed with seal oil and spread on PilotBoy Crackers, beaver and muskrat soup, snow geese or duck.

I had a hard time donating food in Douglas, no response from pantries, so ended up driving out to the food bank and tetrised my bags of food into the already almost full bin💜

Since then I’ve seen lots of local places collecting food as drop off locations. Juneau Urgent Care, the city museum, IDEA.

So pretty!

You get to drive around through dawn for hours, mid-day.

Which makes up in part for the fact that…the sun is not coming up until mid-day.
