This is my great-grandfather Albert Roberson. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, 1858.

He was living in Colorado with his family when gold was discovered in the Yukon in July of 1897
This is my great-grandfather Albert Roberson. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, 1858. He was living in Colorado with his wife and 2 children when gold was discovered in July of 1897 in the Yukon. He abandoned his family and 5 months later, Dec 9, 1897 he staked a claim on Gold Bottom Creek and filed the claim 2 days. Albert never made it rich and years later returned to Montana to live with his daughter's family, until his death in 1936. Photo taken alongside Montana Highway 35 near the Community of Beardance. Today we installed the new movie screen at the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts.

This is how you lift a 900lb box screen 30 ft to attach it to the proscenium without a forklift or electric sissorjack.

A young child dressed in traditional clothing on a sled. Seal mukluks and parka with a wolverine ruff. It was said you could often tell where a person was from by the soles of their mukluks. Moose hide soles were used in the Interior where moose was common. Seal skin soles were found in coastal communities where marine animals were the main sources for subsistence foods and clothing materials. Each had its purpose, seal was waterproof and held up well in wet environments, although they were slippery. Moose was great in cold, dry, powdery snow but would wear and tear when subjected to wet environments. The mukluks were filled with straw or grasses for insulation. When felt boot liners were popular those were used.

This week we drove south through the Swan Valley to see the western Larch, (some call it a Tamarack) change colors.

The Swan Valley in northwestern Montana lies between the Swan Range to the east and the Mission Range to the west.

It is also home to Gus in Seely Lake.

We stopped at the Jim Girard Memorial Grove to visit Gus, North America's Largest known western larch. Gus, a 1000 years old, stands 151 ft tall (the Statue of Liberty stands 153 ft), has a girth of more then 22.5 feet. The Larch is a deciduous conifer, it loses its needles in the fall and regrow them in the spring. A grove of large larch in the Jim Girard Memorial Gove.

Today the local flock of turkeys wandered thru my parents yard, foraging for tasty treats. I often see them crossing the roads, highway, yards and fields. I have seen them cross the river, in the winter, on one occasion.

PS. Turkey season is in the spring, so don't get any wild ideas.
