As someone not in but near seattle who stays lightly abreast of seattle politics and is happy about the win: I’d still push back on the notion, however well-meaning & earnest, that this is a “west coast Mamdani win” with Wilson scraping by and not having even 1/10th the public engagement.

For sure. The market changed, not just the bravery or whatnot of the artists.

A lot of what we get now of bands touring their 90s hits or their big album… older artists would have gotten the piss taken out of and on them if they did that as their 90s resurgence.
Nah. Because loads of 90s acts are still going. They’re just not making big swing creative resurgences.

Love being a contractor and my billing agent just… not billing a bunch of things (and it’s too late now) so I just won’t get paid for around 30% of my work/time this year.

I genuinely presume if you’ve liked your own post it’s an accident. Yes, it technically could be either you really enjoying your own content or trying to juice the Algorithm in some esoteric way (won’t work) but… more likely just a flailing thumb, right? Please say you’re not choosing to do that.

Thanks LinkedIn junk mail—I’d never realized that those five things were equivalent! 🤦‍♀️

Wait, who tf has been liking their own posts?

After greatly enjoying his preening dandy performance in Frankenstein, I think I'd really like to see Oscar Isaac in an adaptation of The Portrait of Dorian Gray. The fact that he's on the point of aging out of the part would in fact I think give it some extra juice.

Spoiler: he hates that Picard, Riker, and Data didn’t have the same banter as Kirk, Spock and McCoy. But they did. At least in s01, and especially in s02. We‘ve just sort of erased that from our memory. Gene liked playful antagonism and @melindas.bsky.social wrote TNG dialogue better than anyone.

It’s not just that Trump is personally a rapist, though there’s lots of credible evidence to suggest that he is. It’s that he is promoting a fundamentally pro-rape ideology, and that the permissiveness for rape and entitlement to rape that are core to his worldview are central to his appeal for men.

I don’t even assume continuity within the Craig Bonds: films that actively work to imply (though of course not realize) continuity.
Who in this blip of a lifetime, on this fragile earth, in this whisper of a dream of an existence, has ever assumed a continuity in the James Bond franchise
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

It’s fun to watch a show like OMitB pull a neat trick and get the audience to empathize with an otherwise throwaway side character or even a deplorable one, but… not penultimately!

It really cannot be overstated how much a good mystery is just an ok mystery to hang good character interactions on.
there's a real genre element to this, too -- in any show relying on mystery mechanics, there's this assumption that what i care about most as a viewer is the answer.

but this is almost never true. what i care about most as a viewer is watching my main characters realize what the answer was

Can we be clear that three-cueing and phonics can both suck a lot, and that both can have positive outcomes, and that the ‘science’ of teaching children to read is loose at best? Not saying one is not clearly better, just that this zero sum mentality is more detrimental than any particular pedagogy.

You know what's really grinding my gears this week? Low level gender essentialism.

Examples I've heard:
'Well ALL the women in the audience understand don't they?!'
'Girls play different, they're just less... rambunctious.'
'Sorry ladies, this one is for the guys.'
'I'm having a woman moment.'

People really love to pretend autism is new and/or bad, but we’ve been over here doing stuff like this since the dawn of, well, not time, but at least the advent of humanity.
Holy shit, just learned about the typewriter art of Montserrat Alberich Escardívol, a Catalan typist. Using an extra wide typewriter and 180 color ribbons, she built up elaborate images from simple characters like 'm' and '.' and ';'. Here is her typewritten painting of the Cathedral of Barcelona.

Corporate Dem apologists are out in force today trying to rewrite this capitulation into a win somehow. They’re back to blaming progressives and ignoring the corruption in their own party.

I’m not prescriptivist about language, except for “casted”, “disorientated” (or “orientate” etc), “needs cleaned” etc, and that weird use of bias when they mean biased.
my dearest darling internet,

the actor was 'cast' in a movie. not 'casted'. the actor was never 'casted' in the movie. it's not a thing.

cast > casted for movies/roles.

thank you for coming to my ted talk.
