Like no shade. Seattle despite being a liberal bastion is also very much a liberal bastion, so of course it was going to be close. But to compare a her fine and thankfully winning campaign vs a not great option to an outstanding campaign vs that shitclown? Nah.

To be unfair, they are evil but inept. The type of person who thinks it’s fine to say some of these things publicly or even in an email… yeah, they might go to extreme lengths, but not smartly.

I’m not saying you’re wrong at all, I’ve definitely been thinking along those same lines a lot today.

(Plus we largely didn’t take 90s artists as seriously as we took those previous ones who made big important later career creative swings, so if Green Day does something brilliant now that feels way more left field than Bowie and won’t be promoted the same)

Someone posted recently on here about how they love the sexism of Bond, with a clear description of how they also hate it, but as art it’s interesting to have this (various levels of) sexist dinosaur as a protagonist, with his worldview shaping the narrative and presentation.

I say bad movies but I hope it’s clear that I’m a huge fan of most of them, even most of the ones I think are bad, and I don’t think most are bad though definitely they also are lol

Like all great bodies of work that are worthy of hyperfixation, the franchise is an absolute mess of internal contradictions & bad movies that people paper over with their own personal blinders to see just what works for them (until they don’t & get pissed), but the real fun is in the full picture.

He’s gotta be comfortable in his own shoes, for sure, even if he’s kind of miserable as a person. He’s got to find joy in the zings and flirtations, even if it’s a pretty dull joy.

Thus leads me to wonder how I would define Bond (in prime use of surfboard while vampire-ing) and all I’ve got really is that it’s like porn: I know it when I see it. 🤔

It now occurs to me that I’m not entirely clear on how likes work on reposts. I don’t think I’ve gotten a notification when I’ve liked someone quote-reposting, but i presume I would if it was just a plain repost? 🤔

Yeah, very weird aspect of online existence. I have zero idea if a few folks I know got offline for the best or the worst reasons, and they’re just… gone.

Arguably symptomatic of the same factors though.

I neither want to see Surf Dracula learn to surf nor his retirement from surfing.

I definitely get the before time though. A tv used to cost a fuck-ton and to be able to get one without getting it on layaway was maybe worth some insanity. Same for new appliances of most sorts, before the “markup to markdown” became standard and when products might last a lifetime?

People who aren’t and never were me?

But they definitely exist. Not the same as they used to, no humans piling in the door manslaughter’s these days, but definite excitement, like how some folks get excited for new marvel movies (as I still occasionally might?). 🤷‍♀️

Everything about the importance of khan is just the importance of wrath of khan being a cheap movie that actually made money and thus ‘saved the franchise’ (time 3 of 37?) which itself was largely just Montalkhan and some solid Kirk/Spock stuff. Don’t tell me it’s the key to the inverse, old Spock!
