It is literally false that the Jews being hunted by Nazis were citizens, because the first step toward genocide was stripping them of citizenship and making them stateless. As Arendt reminds us, citizenship is a legal category created to facilitate a machinery of exclusion of the out-group.

This is unconscionable. Evil.

But it happened in May 2023, when Biden was president.

So no, we don’t “reform immigration detention,” we destroy ICE, CBP, and DHS. We can’t reform this soul sickness.
Anadith Danay Reyes Álvarez died in government custody.

She had sickle cell and congenital heart disease but couldn’t access timely and adequate medical care.

We need to reform immigration detention.

The MAGA position is that *they* have a right to bear arms, and the rest of us do not.

It's not even hypocrisy; it's a perfectly consistent application of the conviction at the center of their ideology: that certain kinds of people are naturally superior to others.
Q: Do you agree with the assessment from some of your own officials that Alex Pretti is a domestic terrorist or assassin?

TRUMP: Well, I haven't heard that, but he certainly shouldn't have been carrying a gun. I don't like that he had a gun.

Trek exists largely on vibes. All media does, but it’s very funny to watch people get invested in what Trek presents as it’s (quite varied) reality. A lot of the “how do conservatives love trek” inquiries are easily resolved by checking what part of the (meta)text you’re taking as “true”.
Two things of note re Darren’s video: 1) those first two seasons of TNG are PEAK Roddenberry, not Berman. 2) noting how bad the admirals etc in TOS are… is more of a tonal difference from all TNG than an actual one: as usual the Enterprise crew was good but mostly they encountered bad starfleet.

You ever have a day where the sexiest man alive just takes all of how you’re feeling, wraps it up clearly, and puts it into a low key Bluesky skeet?
Anyone else finding it extremely difficult to focus on anything right now? Anxiety through the roof. I can’t do simple tasks, reply to emails, auditions, shower, watch a movie, play a game.

I can’t move. Bouncing between anger and despair hourly, it really does feel like evil is winning everywhere.

Glad it’s not just me quote-responding to the gov this time.

“Trump’s ICE” my ass.
NEW FROM OUR PUBLISHER: Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker’s "Abolish Trump's ICE" language is a “bad apples” argument dressed in a trenchcoat.

Oh man… I’ve got a lot of thoughts here.

Mainly, I’m just glad someone said it more eloquently than I could, someone who isn’t as stuck on tangible details in this case as I am. (It’s hard to take my criticisms of the story & themes seriously once you know I think the production design is… wrong.)
This week for @SecondWindGroup.com, @janjozone.bsky.social and I look at “Starfleet Academy.”

And how the show has betrayed the next generation. And, you know, “The Next Generation.”

My staff meeting this morning (several states away) opened with everyone espousing how glad they were 🧊 was gone from MSP, breathing sighs of relief, but… they aren’t.
A reminder that ICE hasn’t slowed down in Minneapolis at all.

Outside of Minnesota, it might feel like everything has changed since Alex Pretti’s murder. But ICE hasn’t actually lost any power and they’re continuing to terrorize our communities.

This happens to me a lot. The thing is, even if I were a cis man, they’d know I wasn’t, so to speak. They’d know I was other and “wrong”. The very fact that I want to use my voice to lift people up, that I believe in human rights, not to mention how I sit in chairs, would all be cues for them.
I am continually depressed by how much I have to fight to be understood, even by people who say they wish to support people like me. There is nothing more depressing than having repeatedly felt like I would be much further in my career if I were a cis man, even if I said the exact same things.

Embarrassed to say I did this as well.
for a second I got Philip Glass and John “4 33” Cage mixed up in my mind and was like “if he says you aren’t allowed to play the piece how do you even comply”

Hot damn I’m so glad those buildings are mostly not made of wood on the outside!
Reminder that if you want to watch a torch procession of Vikings (and people in Spider-Man costumes) that ends with them burning a longship, Up Helly Aa streams live in 15 minutes or so.

Am I the kind of person who only knows about Shetland because of the show (and the wool), yes. But… now I know.

Voting matters, but it isn’t what matters most. And distilling everything to “blue team will save you from red team” is how we end up here. Do the real work. Voting follows that, not leads.
We have so much more power than a vote ballot. Use it. Or are we just going to let Democrats lul us to sleep again by saying “take this anti fascist energy into the voting booth, vote us in, and just let us do the work while you go back to sleep!”

If I post a “bad take” on here, I’ll be sure to get some harassment, but I’m a tiny account so I won’t get mountains of bullshit.

This is not hypothetical—it’s happened many times.

And while me being trans non-binary is easily viewable info, most don’t go look because, again, I’m small potatoes.

it's also a demand never made of, say, rural people who won't go into the city because they think they'll be murdered.
"getting outside your bubble" is an admirable thing when it means trying a new hobby or introducing yourself to your neighbor or watching an art film but people only want to apply it to "being a little more racist just to see how it feels"
these people seem like idiots

my perhaps puritanical opinion is that this stuff is brain poison and exposing yourself to it makes you stupider. I'm sure there are right-leaning historians and classicists who contribute worthwhile research to the commons but right-wing political theory is ex post facto practically by definition

I'm sorry I can't stop thinking "all democrats know how to do is fund police, do means test and lie" on repeat now
Unfortunately Democrats only know how to give cops more money, technology, and staffing. They only have one button to press and they’re making a very concerned face as they press it

it's worse than that. they want to believe that it's only correct *now* and that we were all incorrect *then*. they are the ones not giving credit, not us.

for real, welcome to reality finally, but if you're here because you think only *now* it's fascism, you can't expect us to trust your judgment.
If you were to turn in a paper 10–20 years late, vs. a class of peers who did so on time while reminding you in the interim that the paper was due, would you demand full credit, or accept that you get only partial?

As someone who thinks it’s awesome how Ake sits in the captain’s chair, I’m still going to call BS on folks equating it to the Riker maneuver which he did not do to the captain’s chair. The fact that the people they are trying to score cheap gotchas on totally deserve it doesn’t make them not cheap.

I would say that if people pointing out that they've been saying this all along and insisting you reflect on why you didn't listen before is going to make you regress on your views or resent those people you ostensibly agree with now, you didn't really change your opinion in a meaningful way.
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?
