Watcher of films and TV. Reader of books. Player of games. Drinker of teas. Spent nearly 20 years in America but bailed after 2024. Rather worried about those I left behind and spend far too much of my free time staring at the car crash that is the US gov.

"It is logically impossible to simultaneously be evil, corrupt, and incompetent" is an absolutely amazing take to have in the year of 2025

Seems a generous take, really. Hard to say if this will change anything on the ground, but it will continue to erode what little coherency remains in American law. The more convoluted, confusing, and contradictory the rulings across cases and courts, the more fascists have loopholes to exploit.
Kavanaugh goes out of his way to pen a footnote not having to deal with the case at hand.

He appears to be trying to narrow the forces he unleashed with his prior opinion allowing for race- and ethnicity-based #KavanaughStops

Excellent news for Washingtonians.
BREAKING: I support a Millionaires’ Tax on income over $1 million a year.

The fairness of our tax system ranks 50th. Let’s make this historic change this session.

This is a separate proposal from the budget I announced today — revenue would not be realized until 2029.

Bari Weiss lied in her memo. She said segment didn't report administration's legal justification (it does in the very first sentence) and didn't say how many detainees had been charged with crimes as opposed to just those who were convicted (it does). www.muellershewrote.com/p/watch-the-...

There is a tremendous opportunity for a brand new generation of media outlets to rise up right now because many news outlets that spent decades painstakingly building their credibility are seeing it torched by bootlickers with incredible speed.

People should keep complaining. The best sources featuring the best journalists are paywalled. The worst "sources" featuring the worst "journalists" are free. New media cannot be run like traditional media without the methods contributing to ignorance and fascism.
[preparing to get screamed at] I think I officially don’t need to know if you’re mad that an article is paywalled. Perhaps that can be an Inside Thought

Just FYI in case anyone's interested, when you put a bunch of emojis after your screen name it makes it unnecessarily challenging for people who use screen readers to read your posts and follow you. The screen reader will read out every single emoji description every time you pop up in their feed.

To be blunt, repaving highways by putting Washington $3 billion in debt rather than raising taxes on the wealthy is irresponsible.
To be blunt, the state has neglected its core transportation infrastructure for too long.

Today, I announced that I'm proposing $2.1 billion, the largest investment in 2 decades, for preservation and maintenance of our roads and bridges. This is being done without raising taxes.

The Yanks are eating up Mitt Romney's rubbish. He doesn't like, agree with, or care about you! He is saying "tax the rich" at a time when he can be most assured the rich will not only not be taxed but have even more wealth redistributed to them.

They fall for this kind of thing at least once year.

I reckon @propublica.org will and SHOULD lose their extremely talented journos if they won't treat them and their readers with the bare minimum of respect.

I've been a regular donor for a while. Can't see myself continuing if they're going to embrace AI.
1/ At bargaining yesterday, @propublica.org management said that they should have 100% discretion to replace workers with AI and would not commit to labeling future AI-generated content.

I lived in Seattle before leaving America because of the orange imbecile. I liked Inslee and Ferguson, but Washington's unwillingness to tax its rich will be its undoing when the GOP is going to laugh off at least 50% of blue states' aid requests.
We're working on a Major Disaster Declaration to unlock significant financial resources from the federal government for individuals, local governments, and the state.

We will make a very compelling case for disaster relief for this historic flooding.
