Louis CK's moral downfall (or at least the revelation thereof) hurts me more than most as I think he did excellent work that spoke to me. But that doesn't excuse anything. Maybe I'll read his book if I outlive him.
The problem isn't CK's talent, NYT. Stop making the argument that enough talent allows you to do and get away with things. CK had a longstanding system of pathological abuse and used his fame and connections to squash it, ruining lives and careers. That has nothing to do with a movie he just wrote.
When a cancelled performer reënters the culture, we expect them to offer us a great work, channelling their newfound clarity into the finest art they’ve ever made. With his new comedy show and début novel, has Louis C.K. met the bar?

one insidious thing about gen AI is it's not just causing us to mistrust dodgy images, it's also making us mistrust images that look perfectly normal. this is gaslighting in a very literal sense bc the technology is undermining the trust we have in our own ability to perceive reality!
