Your worth is not determined by your health.

Your worth is not determined by your job, marital status or economic output.

Everyone is deserving of shelter, food, healthcare and social supports.

No one should have to “earn them”.

When basic needs are met, society is better off.

Weird Pride in a Hostile World

This is a day for people to embrace their weirdness, & reject the stigma associated with being weird. To publicly express pride in the things that make us weird, and to celebrate the diversity of humankind

I like this quote from Travis Alabanza's None of the Above: 'If transness is working correctly, it is pushing for a world where anyone can express themselves in any way and not be deserving of violence: that no expression of any self becomes a reason why someone may incite harm.'

We all need this.

We can't win without celebrating what we're fighting for.

We fight because diversity makes humans so much more interesting, because there is so much joy to be found in things that some people try to tear down because they don't understand them, and because we all NEED to be allowed to be who are.

I also got a lot of of @juliaserano.bsky.social's latest essay, on the 'marked vs. unmarked' mindset, and also the idea of 'bottom-up' organising, in the sense of emphasising the parallels between different forms of marginalisation.

So much rests on marking people 'other'.

At Autistic Parents UK, accessibility is very important to us. We are growing as a charity, and we aim to be user-led as we improve and develop our offerings. So we’d love to get your input.

Our peer support takes place via video call, but we are flexible on how this works in practice.

We agreed that it was important to explicitly address the political climate Weird Pride Day is taking place in this year.

Weird Pride is a celebration, but also, always, an act of defiance - perhaps now more than ever.

Credit to David @neurohubcommunity.org for suggesting this.
