I just noticed they wrote flow vectors on the new pipes.🤩

(I did that on my non-heat plumbing early after moving in, to figure out dead lines & just…to understand.)

I appreciate a plumber who calls me down to inspect the work with “I think you’ll like it, shiny copper and we can nerd out.”

(She knows I like copper pipery AND will want an explanation of how it all works.)

It’s also a LOT quieter 🤫

ICE is at the Waverly Giant, Baltimore friends. Beware.

I’m pretty sure the kittens are not coming out from under the bed anytime soon. Pumpkin, meanwhile, is calmly eating while the whole house vibrates & I can’t hear my meeting over the roar.

Well, this is loud.

When my dad was on sabbatical in the early 90s, he lived at a solar observatory near his (non solar) telescope site. The cable tv provided to housing included a channel that was a feed of the sun from the primary telescope.

I’ll admit, I’m excited. Not over the cost, but over getting one looming concern over not-quite-broken-yet thing fixed.

Plus, this particular lead plumber is more than happy to let me peek & explain how things work. She leaves me more informed & doesn’t make me feel dumb for asking.⭐️

Tomorrow’s plan: up at 6, turn off heat, fill bottles/pitcher with my normal drinking water consumption. Shower, do morning’s dishes, locate neighbor’s keys & brace for plumbers.

I think the USPS guy was a little startled by my enthusiasm today, ripping open the door before he’d gotten down the steps.

But I got a grin when I shouted he’d just delivered a heated blanket.

Heat drunk spillage.
November 12, 2025 at 1:22 AM
Oh right, no trash pickup today.

Pumpkin & Maple are heat drunk on the radiators. We’ll see who abandons them & curls up on me tonight. They stay warm for quite a while.
November 11, 2025 at 4:16 AM
Maple just discovered downstairs radiators are hot! Note she has one paw tucked under the pillow against the radiator & one above. She remembers how to regulate.

Having the water off during the boiler plumbing will be FUN! I’ll go next door for water&toilet, but Pumpkin is gonna SCREAM about not having faucet privileges. But I don’t think she’ll cooperate if I carry her over there. Will be distracted by exploring.

Ok, so technically I turned the heat on. Just priming, a couple hours. And yeah, I’m really glad I got the plumber in because the fill valve is definitely leaking on the regular now (just was in long runs end of last winter. I do need to bleed the rads, but no point now. Refill on weds.)

My summer internship was at Lowell. I used to eat my lunch on the steps of the Lowell mausoleum. (& I grew up knowing Clyde & Patsy Tombaugh personally. He discovered Pluto at Lowell.) ☹️

I spent 15 min this am decanting 2 bottles of unpumpable lotion dregs into a 3rd & that was 8 oz worth. Design is so deliberately wasteful.

12 seconds of vroom.

I went to ikea for nonslip rug underlays(seriously best price locally,) also got dill mustard and gingerbread mini cinnamon rolls.
November 10, 2025 at 4:11 AM
Maple’s in a new spot tonight! Downstairs!
(Seriously a sign of cold weather coming even though the house is warmest it’s been in days; Maple hanging out downstairs.)

Sinus barometer going off. Going to be a painful week, I think.

And weds is going to be LOUD(plumbing work.)
