3 months ago, Melissa Hortman & her husband were killed in their home by a man who— *While In Disguise As A Cop In Order To Increase His Chances Of Success/Evading Capture*— stalked her *&* another state legislator. Today? Crickets.

Charlie Kirk's gonna get his face on a prayer flag in the Oval.
For everyone saying political violence has no place in this country…

Remember two Democratic legislators were shot in Minnesota just this year.

And America shrugged and moved on.

We have a bit of a natural experiment here. Compare the tone, quantity and duration of Charlie Kirk coverage with that of the two Dem lawmakers gunned down in their homes in Minnesota 6 months ago. May be revealing.

Not to mention, sprawl creates fascists. Who’s more likely to be aggrieved and vengeful? The guy who walks to the store and has a drink at the bar and chats with people, or the guy who sits in traffic all day and views other people as obstacles in his way?
One thing I've not seen mentioned in redistricting discourse is the fact that California has built so little housing over the last two decades, we're on track to lose ~ 4 seats in the house anyway.

People really don't appreciate how deeply NIMBYs have fucked the United States.

Part of my answer to "how'd we get here?" is an elite, institutional culture deeply opposed to calling bullshit. To do so is uncouth, uncivil, biased. Stated rationales must be taken at face value. There's no such thing as bad faith. Questioning motives is wrong. It's just debate, have some respect.

imo, if someone believes some races or ethnicities are genetically inferior to others, that person has revealed a weakness of mind and character that casts extreme if not irrefutable doubt on their other ideas. why would i expect them to use more rigor on, eg, housing than they do on human nature?

Just a reminder, this never works. You can use cops to combat homeless *individuals,* but the only thing that ends homelessness is housing.

I covered Ghislaine Maxwell's trial from her indictment to her conviction - my report minutes after the jury found her guilty is below.

It will be nothing short of a travesty of justice and a tragedy for every girl she victimized if Trump's DOJ cuts a deal with Maxwell to protect the President.

Propaganda works. They print the stories the right wants printed because they like Trump and want him to win

Around the world, at least 31 democratic leaders who committed similar crimes have been jailed or banned from office since 2010. The failure to hold Trump accountable in the US was a unique and systemic failure of our institutions and political culture.
