I have a small idea what I'm doing. I'm working on a prison abolition game that engages people deeply in the policy choices that have created mass incarceration in the U.S. Emphasis on choices because there are other ways. https://silver-guillotine.itch.io

Hello to all my new followers! I'm Sean (he/him), speak English and Spanish, and I'm learning #indiegamedev in my free time to try to change minds and create a better world through #prisonabolition.
I will mix game updates with news, my blog posts, and examples of successful reform. Advice welcome.
Progress is progress. I've got an itch page up for the game (silver-guillotine.itch.io/abolition-game) and some great background art commissioned from Smeet (vgen.co/SmeetPXL). I also have a new devlog there about what is abolition to me (silver-guillotine.itch.io/abolition-ga...)

We bought into the "post scarcity" narrative because digital tech feels so magic and ethereal but we need to get back to an understanding of the material costs and effects of those systems. They are not very post-scarce in reality.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for one day.

Enclose the commons and he will have to come back to Conglomerated Fishing, Inc. every day to buy fish, which is actually better for everyone.

Private equity firm Sycamore Partners bought Walgreens.

Now Walgreens has stopped giving most workers paid vacation on Thanksgiving, Christmas and other major holidays.

Private equity takeovers are a disaster for workers, and customers.

Sarah Kendzior saying on Substack that she was given no reason for her BlueSky ban until she asked multiple times.

Most people don't want social media with Nazis and hate speech and it's sad that Bsky mods can't see the difference between quoting a song lyric and a direct and credible threat

My political hot take is that US voters should be able to recall elected representatives via petition - at any time.
No more hiding behind election terms.

1. This is stolen land. We have no moral right to exclude anyone.

2. "Illegal immigration" is a product of 20th century racism; your forebears came "legally" because there was no such thing as "illegal immigration" then.

3. Open borders are good. Borders are racist and colonial violence.

While this isn't surprising, it's worth noting that this administration is elevating the most violent state actors in the most violent state institution in a country swimming in state violence.

Detention conditions for youth across the US are awful and cannot be reformed.

The most promising solution is to expand diversion programs and keep youth in the community.
Screams and bangs echoed inside Ohio’s largest youth residential treatment center. Some children rushed outside to grab rocks. A teacher ushered her students into the cafeteria for safety.

Another teacher texted her mother, pleading with her to call 911: “Call them. Call mom please.”
