I have a small idea what I'm doing. I'm working on a prison abolition game that engages people deeply in the policy choices that have created mass incarceration in the U.S. Emphasis on choices because there are other ways. https://silver-guillotine.itch.io
The point of Black Mirror is we shouldn't do the things in the show!

All media must now include a moment like in the most recent Frankenstein where they look directly at the doctor and say "You're the real monster" so the tech bros understand it

Will definitely give this a read. Seems like it mirrors my thoughts when reading The Wretched of the Earth. Understanding a colonial regime so deeply opened my eyes to the same dynamics at play in the US with our prison system, but also with residential segregation and other enforced divides

Never thought about it until now, but neon stained glass would be pretty cool

Yeah, these hierarchies and granted power really mess with people's minds.

Prison guards regularly commit horrific abuses and, by the same standards we sentenced people to the prisons they control, they should be locked up.

The problem isn't really the guards though, but the power over others

1. This is stolen land. We have no moral right to exclude anyone.

2. "Illegal immigration" is a product of 20th century racism; your forebears came "legally" because there was no such thing as "illegal immigration" then.

3. Open borders are good. Borders are racist and colonial violence.

I think it says a lot about the average rich person too

Even sadder to me is the fact that many guards and teachers in such institutions are well-meaning and want to help kids with the most need. However, the solution in all but the most extreme cases is to provide health care, food, housing, and job opportunities to youth and families in need
