Welcome to the new #SFFChat! Every Thursday, alternating mornings and evenings EST, I'll post a new set of questions that anyone can answer! It's chiefly for writers, but if you're a fan of SFF literature, please feel welcome to hop into the space and discuss your favourite writers as well!

#SFFChat A2 - Sometimes I do. The time of day and weather may affect my characters. The time of year also affects them. I get Seasonal Affective Disorder mid winter. My characters sometime act like they suffer from it year round. LOL
#SFFChat Q2: When you write, do you tend to have a clear picture of the time of day for particularly intense scenes?

3. I guess I kinda answered this already.😅 The Demiurge world has seconds, minutes, hours that are conveniently equivalent to ours, or translated to ours, by necessity. They have hourglasses and things like metronomes for their clocks.
#SFFChat Q3: How is time kept or measured in your world? If time is the same way as for us, how does magic or technology influence it?

Seff's story begins humbly, but it gives an idea of the courage, determination, and sense of altruism that she's always had.

Hi, I'm Koamaterasuhime/Cherry Moon and my favourite time of the day is night. I love to look out my window and see the moon and stars. I can always see Venus and Orion from my house, which are very pretty.

#SFFChat Outro.

Thanks for hosting, this one was fun & let me ramble about my new WIP!

Instead of self-promo (It's my pinned post), I'm gonna ask, does anyone have any recs for good witchy music? Things like Mummer's Dance, Blackbriar, Paris Paloma, & such? Need to beef up WIP writing playlist.

In my seafaring series, time doesn't exist in the realm where the gods live. This, of course, makes writing anything that takes place in the divine realm rather tricky, lol. But the gods of Midir did not create time--mortalkind developed the concept of time.

#SFFChat Q1: What unique features of day, night, or time exist in your world? OR, how do people in your world think about these concepts (maybe they're sacred, etc)?

Ummm... not really, especially for the Hero trilogy, which took place mostly in a floating megalopolis. I DID have a really clear picture of the city though, especially the alleyways and massive thoroughfares. Think Fifth Element meets Bladeruner.

An entire population lives underground, so "day" doesn't matter and instead there is a 24/7/365 culture and individuals build lives around self-created sleeping/waking schedules.

There is time marked & years noted that mirror the rotation of Earth (so one "day" is still 24 hrs) but no time zones.

For intense scenes, I do have a strong image of when the biggest plot points take place. Smaller scenes, not so much, though. I don't always feel the need to keep track throughout my writing.

I do keep track of dates in my seafaring series, though, & use them as headers for each chapter.

Maybe this is more of my character realizing the time. I'm fade to black, but y'all know what happened here. The spice is paprika at best.😉

At the center of reality, there is no clock. It is the reservoir from which all time flows out and then circles back. From the center of reality one can step into any point in time and become part of the flow of it, but you will also disrupt that flow and change events downstream.

Midmorning, after my brain has had sufficient time to boot up and all the things on my to do list still seem possible.

Im Marge and I love predawn morning when I’m able to be a morning person, as the world has not quite started up yet and I feel less shame from everyone’s eyes. Music hits really hard for me at this time when I’m still up extremely late due to sleep dysfunction caused by chronic illness lmao.

#SFFChat Q3 Close up of the clock in the Good Thyme Inn, from art by Aowna.

Theirs days are exactly as long as ours are, but they like to divide the day into 3 chunks of 8 hours, so their clocks have only eight hours. One 8-hour block is called a triune. They say the triune when they say the time.

When I write, the picture is extremely clear for intense scenes. I'm guessing it's because they're pivotal moments for the characters. 😁😁😁
