Hakeem Jeffries voted for Charlie Kirk Day but still isn’t sure if he’ll endorse Zohran Mamdani. This is why the approval rating of the Democratic Party is lower than Trump’s or the GOP.

My dad handed me Asimov's I, Robot in a bookstore and said "Here, start with this." I was 9.
Inspired by @scalzi.com on reading or not the Canon of science fiction...
What, bluesky scifi fans ,were the first science fiction books that you can remember reading?
For me it was
* Adrift in the Stratosphere, by AM Low
* Lensman series by EE Smith

Okay now I am finally watching Challengers and I am having real trouble believing the two lead guys are Americans. They are SO. BRITISH. I'm sorry this is what's throwing me out of this movie.

I am watching Foundation finally and are they expecting me to believe that some 20,000+ years in the future women are still wearing basic, back clasp underwire bras? That THAT is the pinnacle of underwear technology??

I know we don't feel like there's much to celebrate this July 4th. It's been a rough several years.

So I want to talk about how we're making history right now.

Feel like "Don't you want to fight these bastards for real?" would be a good campaign slogan for a primarily challenger to a Democratic incumbent.

It’s a terrible bill. It will literally kill people. The most vulnerable among us will suffer as the wealthiest benefit. It’s perverse. I wish there were something I could do. But alas, I am only a U.S. Senator from Alaska whose “no” vote would kill the bill. So I voted yes. You get it.

This kid is 15, and so has a moral clarity and uprightness that no adult elected official would or could ever have. There aren't really and never have been two sides of this issue, but if it has to be argued as a binary thing I don't see how anything less than this could seem like the side to be on.
this is a letter to the editor from a high school track runner who came in second to a trans girl in a race. her state house rep in maine started talking about it. so she wrote this: www.pressherald.com/2025/05/14/r...

Booker's speech has been terrific. Declaring this "a moral moment" for America. Calling for action to preserve our Constitution and democracy. And calling out both houses of Congress for failing to check Trump's attacks on the rule of law. Thank you, senator!
What an extraordinary thing.

Not just for Senator Booker but for New Jersey and the millions of Americans he spoke for today. This is an extraordinary moment that demands us to act and build a better future for our country.

And, to be clear, it's almost certainly happening *because* the base has been screaming for action from elected Democrats.

This isn't "relax, they've got this." This is "keep yelling, it's working."
Btw, that means in the last 24 hours we've had:

-Cory Booker going for a record in holding the floor
-Ruben Gallego putting a hold on VA nominees over cuts to veterans care
-Adam Schiff putting a hold on Ed Martin's nomination for DC US attorney over... a lot

That's a genuinely good start.

with no exaggeration speaking coherently and passionately for over 24hrs on your feet is a more impressive physical act that any so-called alpha bro has ever come close to achieving
Someone had better have the story tomorrow of how Booker prepped for this marathon: calories, hydration, footwear, all of it

Unidentified men grabbing someone off the street and putting her in a car because she wrote an op-Ed. This as flatly authoritarian as anything we’ve seen in this country in a very long time.
Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.
